That's called dieseling. The gas mixture ignites even though you turned off the ignition and aren't getting spark anymore. It can be caused by a solenoid on the carburetor that's supposed to shut the throttle all the way when you turn the key off. Popping the clutch just loads the engine down enough to kill it.

This must be a bike with a carbureter. This condition is called dieseling. A diesel engine does'nt use spark plugs. The air/fuel mixture fires when it heats up from being compressed. The same is happening with your bike where it is continuing to run even when you stut it off so the bike must be running too hot or idling too fast. Another possible cause of dieseling is carbon build-up on the pistons and or cylinders causing higher compression. With newer engines that have injectors dieseling for more than a few seconds is impossible because when the engine is shut off there is no way to get additionel fuel into the cylinders other than the injectors firing.
