Pro-Gold!
Pro-Gold is a sinking pellet that includes Krill, Fish, Shrimp, Wheat, Spirulina and Alfalfa as the main ingredients. Pro-Gold also includes an immunostimulant to stimulate the immune system and a probiotic to support the good bacteria in your goldfish's intestinal track. Plus, all essential vitamins and minerials to keep your fish healthy. Pro-Gold will help reduce constipation, egg binding and will stimulate the immune system, while keeping your goldfish in excellent condition.
Because it sinks and has all the good stuff in it, it will help out tremendously with the pearlscale in preventing swim bladder problems!
As an extra though...you can't beat a couple of thawed frozen peas every couple of days. The fish love them! And they really cut your chances in having swim bladder problems in all kinds of "rotund" fish (including my blood parrot cichlid!)

In my somewhat limited experience with goldfish I think that the same applies to them as to other fish. There is no one perfect food. There is no one item that will give the perfect balance of vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, fiber, oils etc that a fish needs. That's why I always advocate feeding a well balanced mixed diet. It's good to have a very healthy flake or pellet as a main part of their diet, but for goldfish you need to add fresh fruits and vegetables, especially the vegetables. Lettuce, peas, spinach, cucumber, squash, green beans and others are all good for goldfish. A little fruit all along is good too. Oranges, bananas and even some apple.
Mix it up, just like you do for yourself.

Although pellets and flakes are great, as well as using colorenhansing foods is great your fish also need a few other items as "roughage" Green veggies of any kind especially lettuce and greens will add to their diet. Since goldfish are plant eaters by nature (carp) it is always best to keep live plant or supplement their diet with live plants, if not lettuce and greens. Also, goldies of all kinds need high vit. c content foods, not just corn meal foods. Orange pieces as wellas watermellons are great additives for your fishthat will help hold color. Remember goldfish have not stomachs and need fed 2-3 times per day. yep they are piggies. DO NOT over feed, but a little three times per day. High protiens low fats and filler like corn meals will keep your fish happy, healthy and trim.
P.S. The greens will keep the large swim bladder in check as well as stress coat.

I use Top-Fin color enhancing fish flakes. It brings out my fish's color and keeps them satisfied.
