No i doubt anyone is jumping for joy over the price of gas these days. Excepts maybe the people profiting off of it.
Writing letters to your representatives is a step in the right direction. Standing around and complaining to one another gets us nowhere!!
If more people would stand up and be more active in the issue maybe there would be some type of change.

I happen to work in the industry and I find your vague and erroneous assumptions appalling. You want to enjoy all the benefits of hydrocarbons yet you think that they just spring up out of the ground endlessly like this is the Beverly Hillbillies. When you can find any other business in the world where a company is expected to drill a $5-10 million hole with a less than 60% of finding any hydrocarbons at all you can start complaining.
If gasoline prices were regulated, no companies would sell gasoline here in the USA, then you would walk to work everyday. The only reason we cant build refineries is because of left wing hippies like you that cant pick a side of the fence to stay on. Its either high prices or lower EPA standards.
Until then just shut up and be happy that you have petroleum, and so yourself a favor and do some research.....Exxon isn't even the full name of the company.

Ok well most of us are pizzed. Ok how about this pick a day let's say 06/06/07 it is a wednesday. Let's not go to work or buy anything just stay at home and reflect on your family.
I added a disclaimer that all utilities and health care workers go to work. It is only fair. Let's call it "The price is wrong bob"
It would probally have no results but it might make them think of the power of the people next time. check out myspace Ivanthewarrior! Maybe have everyone send Exxon a message stating "the price is wrong Bob"
Just a thought! Email me on my profile and tell me what you think!

So, who's to blame, really.
What do you drive, a 4 cyl. car or a v8?
Don't worry, it's an American thing, we are all guilty.
As a nation we are spoiled rotten, and that is really the greedy oil companies, and big auto makers' fault. But, as you can see all the big auto companies are having problems, why? because of not making cars the public want.
Every one of us has a duty to ourselves, and our nation to make the change to green fuels, and the only way to make it happen is buy green and starve out the greed and corrution from the businesses that thrive on our spoiled additudes.
Look up Tesla motors, they have developed an electric car that is faster than a Corvette(0 to 60 in less that 4 seconds, and top speed of 130 mph!), and goes 250 miles on a single charge. It does cost $100000, but as more and more small companies come up with green cars, the price will drop.

It's not just The USA that is affected by the rising oil costs & the price of petrol in general. The world is affected by it.
It is time the governments ,started getting the motor industry to look at alternative fuels to fuel motor vehicles & that are good for the environment (& stop those green house gasses)
So yes it is more frustrating than anything else.

We, as Americans, have no right to complain about the state of our economy. When millions of children die in Africa from malnutrition, and overpopulation in China forces parents to choose between their children, Americans are using the majority of the world's natural resources and living a life better than 99% of the rest of the world.
Now to answer your question: gas prices wouldn't be so high if we just focused more energy and effort on find more efficient fuel sources. It costs me 20 dollars to fuel up my tank (I have a prius hybrid). With more research into alternative sources, such as the hydrogen fuel-cell and electric motors, as well as solar and nuclear energy for everyday energy, America could become a leader in conservation efforts, inspiring others to do the same.
And the next time you fill up your tank, think of the dozens of children's lives you could save with that 40 dollars (because I'm assuming you have a gas guzzler, or else you wouldn't be complaining so).

Well the gas prices are controlled by the government mainly due to many government officials own stock in gas companies.
We get our fuel from Venezuela so what that has to do with Iran is beyond me.
As for the prices, they should never have gone above $1 per gallon.

When you think about a 41 million dollar profit margin, yah, I'm PO'ed big time. I have a couple of relatives in the service who happen to work in a field closely related to this, so believe me when I tell you.... it's all a big scam that our wonderful and loyal (cough, hack, spit) governement is a part of allowing to happen for political reasons that are "classified". This is no joke and no lie. So the rest of you just accept it and keep believing that your worthless congressman can do something about it, because (wake up call) they can't. Especially when our government is collaborating with other world leaders to keep this "scam" going. It's all part of a bigger picture and one that believe me, those of you who keep pumping out children will come to regret one day, that is if you live long enough to regret it. Otherwise you're just bringing more lambs to the inevitable slaughter.

I am not angry. I am angry that it is not more expensive. I have lived in Japan, I have been to Germany and Sweeden. And my friend you and the rest of us in America and very very fortunate we don't pat 5.00$ a gallon to 7.00$ a gallon. What I will tell you is this. It will go up more untill ....
a. SUV's are no longer on the roads.
b. Government regulation stops purchasing SUV's and Big Trucks by people who do not need it for emergencies or medical disabilities.
c. When the Chinese and Indians of the world... the future, develop and implement the technology to replace fuel.
What you can do is simple. Stop the SUV, stop the big truck. Demand goes down, Supply surplus rises. IE!!!! You get a better price.

Why should I be?
The prices of milk and vodka are both higher.
And American gas is STILL less than half the price of European gas.
I'm all for opening up both ANWR and the Gulf of Mexico to oil drilling. I also support the construction of new gasoline refineries in America.
But to say that gas prices should be regulated is absolutely asinine. There has NEVER been a government price control that did not adversely affect the American people.
