I had two tanks with two res in each of them until this morning when one died. I am very sad about that by the way. Now my husband wants to put the lone turtle in the tank with the others. I'm not sure what to do but i do not want him to be lonely.

It is essential that there is plenty of space in the tank for another red eared slider. Sliders don't always share space very well, and will sometimes pick on each other. generally, for every inch of turtle, there should be ten gallons of water. less than that, and the turtles are very likely to fight due to over crowding.

You never said what killed your other turtle...if it was a fungus, or bacteria, or poor water quality, those are all things that you need to change before you should consider adding another resident to the tank.

Turtles are very sensitive to water quality and temperature. If either of these things are not in a good range, at worst, it can lead to death, and at least it can lead to bacterial and fungal infections, and if that is what killed your turtle, you will need to get rid of the infectious agent, and then correct water quality (the amount of bad chemicals like ammonia) and temperature of the enclosure.

As long as there is enough space in the big tank, yes. Aim for about 10 gallons of water per inch of total turtle shell lengths.

Oh, and consider keeping the lone turtle in quarantine for a month in a well-cleaned cage to make sure it did not pick up anything from the dead turtle.

Keep this turtle separate for a month to be sure he doesn't have something. In fact it would be a good idea to take him to the vet to be sure it wasn't parasites, etc.

If you are only putting the turtle in with the other because of loneliness, remember turtles are not social. They do not need other turtles. In fact they are territorial and aggressive.

If you do put them all together, you need to be sure there is enough room. 10 gal per inch of shell, or they will fight. Also is your filter adequate to handle three turtles(they are huge waste producers)
