I hate this whole Imus thing. It was stupid...but seriously....turn the dial. Last I checked people still had the freedom to be stupid. If enough people stop listening, capitalism will take its toll.
Why is it that we allow "leaders" to perpetuate these notions? Are they not doing just as much to "keep racism alive" If racism dies then they would have no job. Why would they want to work themselves out of the spotlight. Why gives that man's (Imus) words so much power?

John H: No I was never a slave. And unless they are 150 year sold, no one is or has been. That assumption is ignorant. Do you realyl think that the slaves would be happy we were fighting over the term "nappy headed hoes" I bet they would be mroe upset with how the freedom/opportunity that they didn't have then is taken for granted now.

The reason it is perpetuated, the talking heads are making money on it. Bureaucrats jobs depend on it. The so called offended drop the complaint much faster than the talking heads.

We allow people to keep racism alive because although we think we have overcome these injustices, it still happens in many circles including from blacks and hispanics as well. In my belief we have what I call victim status and blacks and hispanics will take advantage of this until the end of time for the many racial discriminations suffered over the ages. What gives Imus so much power in my belief is the constant need by minority groups to claim victim status. That's not to say there aren't injustices but the door should swing both ways. Why don't we go after the rappers who mysoginize and denegrate women, hispanics and themselves. My personal opinion, because we blame white people for all our problems instead of looking inside ourselves and accepting our own faults and responsibilities.

Finally an intelligent perspective on the issue. Imus is not a threat to black people yet the so called "leaders" called for him to be fired and gave the comments more press than it deserved. He didn't insult black people, he insulted a female basketball team.

There are bigger issues to worry about and we're not in the 60's anymore. Black people's issues have changed. Imus isn't abandoning black women after getting them pregnant. Imus isn't out shooting black people. He is not a threat to black people. Maybe out so called "leaders" need to make a big deal over issues like that.

He should've never went on Sharpton's show. He gave Al Sharpton validation. Al Sharpton is not God for black people. Everytime someone white says something racist they run to Al or Jesse Jackson. Who made them such experts?

look at my newest question. I cant stand this double standard we live under.

I believe that soon enough, Rev. Al Sharpton himself will have a racial outburst and people will hopefully open thier eyes.

I'd like to add that John H's comment was by far the most ignorant thing I've heard today. He was never a slave, and we were never slave owners. Something that happened 300 years ago that we had no controll over should not be "paid back" to anyone today.

I'm glad Imus is off TV. I wouldn't have called for his firing, but evidently the companies who enable him don't want to be associated with him. That's their freedom.

I don't like Jesse Jackson because he seems to be a racist, but who sponsors him? If he has sponsors, they are encouraging racism. That's their freedom.

Imus is full of negativity and insults. I'm happy the old goat is gone.

There's been a lot of black people who have spoken about this same thing. You are perpetuating making this a black/white issue.

i does no longer trust the words of Anton Lavey about some thing. If I bear in mind wisely he replaced right into a follower of the daddy of Lies. notwithstanding for this reason Anton does believe the Apostle Paul saying that each and each body such deceptions are from devil. i'm no longer positive there is any such project as "White Magic" or "Black". In any adventure the Bible says stay faraway from all of it. Pastor artwork

Because some real racists made them powerful in a negative way, the way they were not intended. It was a stupid comment but he had no malice towards these girls. He is still going to meet those girls even though he is very aware he no longer has his job.
