Al Sharpton jumped on the Duke lacrosse rape bandwagon super quick. From the moment the story hit the wires, Al Sharpton was already on a plane to Durham with his megaphone.

I'm not saying that Sharpton doesn't have a right to voice his opinion. But his characterizations of the lacrosse players contributed greatly to the media craze that happened, and I think he should be held partly responsible for the pain and suffering it caused the players, who had to suffer through hateful speech and defamation of their characters for an entire year.

Al Sharpton will go anywhere where he can drive a wedge between the black and white communities. He will do anything to force himself into the spotlight, even at the cost of other people (as we see in this case).

Don't get me wrong. I think someone should speak for the black community. I just think a racial muckraker isn't the right person for the job. He causes more harm than good.

Shouldn't he apologize for his role in defaming them?

cave man - I understand that Duke is pretty powerful in Durham, but you forget that Durham was the first organization to write these kids off. After speaking out against the crooked DA (who incidentally is probably going to lose his career, with reason), the Duke Administration was the next one to hear it from these guys.

Besides, it wasn't just the fact that there was no DNA evidence supporting her accusation (although they found 3 other men's DNA on her). It was also her many conflicting statements and other evidence. She definitely lied in this case, regardless of the relationship between Durham and Duke.

Of course he should apologize, but he won't. Heck, he didn't apologize in the early '90s when his anti-semetic rants caused a confused 19 year old boy to stab an innocent 17 year old boy, ruining both their lives.

Come to think of it, I believe Al's body count is up to 8 now isn't it?

All he wants to do is keep racism alive & well in America, that's how he makes his living. If he really gave a damn about how young black women are portrayed, he would be marching against gangsta rap artists.

And if he really gave a damn about justice or truth or anything other than himself, he would publicly apologize to the Duke students.

But as I said before.....He Won't

Al Sharpton is JOKE. Black Americans need a leader who actually cares about educating them and not teaching them to spend their lives hating everyone, and blaming the whole country for there problems. There are some black people out there who have done very well for themselves. BUT, they did it by WORKING hard, aiming high, and giving it there all. They did not want it handed to them. I am white and people in power are NOT doing anything to help me and my ancesters didn't own slaves. But AL and Jessie aren't going to help me any. Not all whites owned slaves. Alot of whites came to this country long after the slavery days and even after the 70's and 80's , etc

He still owes the white police officer an apology for the Tawana Brawley case....this girl said she was raped by a white police officer.....Sharpton ruined the policeman's career and reputation. The girl later admitted that she lied.

Sharpton never apologized. Sharpton spews more hatred than Imus could ever do. Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson as well.

The black community needs some new leaders and throw these 2 away.

Yes he should if indeed they are innocent. However, I have family and friends in North Carolina, and you have to realize that Duke University, not only runs, but basically owns the town of Durham. Duke is a very powerful entity. Over 70% of the towns revenue comes from Duke University or it's subsidiaris. It's kind of like the Vegas saying. "What goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas." Well what goes on in Duke stays in Duke. Going by some of the things I have heard about Duke's strong hold on the town of Durham, I am not convinced that the rape didn't occur. For example, did you know the DNA evidence was examined in a laboratory owned by Duke?

Al Sharpton has done many things worse than the Duke thing. Hurtful, hateful, bigoted things that have ruined people's lives. And guess what, he doesn't care. I don't know why he is revered as a black leader, he seems like a nut case to me. I wish there was a way to make him go away.

Al Sharpton doesn't have the decency or the balls to do the right thing by apologizing to the La Cross players. All he can do is talk smack about white people and announce any short comings he is able to muster up about them. He gets his jollies by getting away with bigotry while accusing others of it.

It's high time that someone made
you aware of the following fact:

There is absolutely *no such thing* as a
singular, homogenous "black community”

Instead, there are many, many different
varieties of “communities” which have
been labeled as being "black" and there
are a great deal of diversity of opinions and
types of people found within each of them.

Thus, many matters -- such as 'Al Sharpton', etc.
--- are *not*, in the least bit, "representative"
of "all" or even "most" of the wide variety of
very diverse "black communities" which exist
throughout the United States of America.

An excellent resource is the book:

"DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE: -- Fighting
Cultural Information about African-Americans"

(-- written by Newsweek and Meet the
Press correspondent, 'Ferai Chideya')

Al Sharpton is a douchebag. I almost want to start a movement to get him to shut the fuc.k up and to ruin his life. I know there are blacks and whites that agree with me on this. We know he's never gonna apologize, and if he does it will be because so many people got up his as.s to do so. It'll be a no-hearted "I'm sorry", and that's it.
He wants to be an asshole and ruin people's lives? Well his should be ruined in exchange. Karma's a ******.

Since he still hasn't apologized to or paid the damage award he lost to the DA in the Tawana Brawley affair, why would you think he will apologize to the duke boys. Don't you know he and Jesse Jackson can slander who ever they want and not be held responsible .

Yes he should and so should ANYONE that believed she was raped when there was little or no proof. Innocent BEFORE proven guilty for all races and all classes.

Unfortunately today I'm living in a Walgreens commercial cause that will never happen. Not in a country whose very foundation was literally built with racism.
