I actually did come out with 2/2x (x) but I knew that there had to be more to it than that. Maybe not. I feel like a goob, lol.

Since both have the same variable (x), all you have to do is add the numeric values.
1/2+1/2=2/2=1
Since (x) is on both 1/2, just add that to the sum
1x

*Remember that if two numbers have the same variable, just add the numbers and add the variable at the end of the sum.

Add the numbers that are in front of the variables and attach the variable to it, if it makes it easier on you.

1/2x + 1/2 x

2/2x which equals 1x which is written x

Think of the variable as a thing. If you have half an "ex" and are given another half an "ex" you have a whole "ex"

1/2x +1/2x= 1x= x.

one half of something plus one half of the same thing makes one thing. Two halves make a whole.
