If the file is from a 2003 or earlier version Office 2003 will open it.

If the file is from of a newer version you will need to install:

Hi Abe!

There are a fair few versions of Microsoft Office, which one did you use to create the file that you want to bring to the other computer with Office 2003? If it was made with Office 2000, XP, 97 or 95, then it should work fine. Any older and I'm not so sure, but it might. If you made it with Office 2007 (the new one that came out recently), it might not open, so heres what to do (only if you're using 2007): open up the file, go to File > Save As... and make the file type as an office .doc for an older version. Good luck!

If the file was created with a newer version of microsoft office it will. If the file was created in a microsoft office older than 2003 it won't work.

Most Microsoft office files are able to be read by newer versions. This may be a problem with a very old file, but it should work with any Office 2000 or 97 files.

Most Microsoft products are capable of backward compatibility. You shouldn't have any problem loading your file up in Office 2003.

The vast majority of older version office files will open under later versions of office. It might ask you if you want to re-format the file. You should save a copy of the original under a new name, like: filename_office97.doc
before you open it up with '2003.

Yes. Office 2003 will convert any earlier version, at least back to Word 97. Beyond that, I don't know.

It should work. What do you mean by an office file? Word is .doc, powerpoint is .ppt and Excel is .xl*

Any of them should carry forward.

Why don't you just save it as RichText and you will be able to open it in any Microsoft word processor.
