Algebraic Expression....

1) x+2
2) x+4
3) x+6
4) x+8

x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 + x + 8 = 2060

First: combine "like" terms.

x + x + x + x + 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 = 2060

4x + 20 = 2060

Sec: subtract 20 from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).

4x + 20-20 = 2060-20

4x = 2060 - 20

4x = 2040

Third: solve for "x" by isolating the variable on one side > divide both sides by 4.

4x/4 = (2040)/4

x = (2040)/4

x = 510

Now, replace 510 with each "x" variable in the algebraic expressions.

1) x+2
= 510+2
= 512

2) x+4
= 510+4
= 514

3) x+6
= 510+6
= 516

4) x+8
= 510+8
= 518

Solutions: 512, 514, 516, 518

If you are looking for 4 consecutive integers...
Let x=lowest integer
x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)=2060
4x+12=2060
4x=2048
x=512
So the integers are, 512+514+516+518

see if this works ...

let x be the first of the 4 consecuitive integers.

the next 3 will be:

x+2
x+4
x+6

therefore, x+ x+2 + x + 4 + x + 6 = 2060

combine everything and : 4X + 12 = 2060

do a little algebra and X = 512

512 + 514 + 516 + 518 = 2060

it works!!

4x + 12 = 2060

4x + 12 - 12 = 2060 - 12

4x = 2048

4x / 4 = 2048 / 4

x = 2048 / 4

x = 512

2007-04-12 19:27:59 · answer #7 · answered by SAMUEL D 7 · 0 0

you solve it by
x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)=2060
this is
4x+12=2060
4x=2048
x=512
then the integers are 512, 514, 516, and 518.
