Althought i dont like to admit it i dont know everything so im hoping you can help me.
My mom recently decided to decorate her tank because she said i decorated it like crap. She went to the 99 cent store and bought 2 bamboos. These bamboos came in 2 pots with dirt and rock in there. I want to know how can i make them acceptable for a freshwater tank. here is what they look like

Well..... I'm old and kinda fat, but not too crazy lol Hey, at least I don't have hair on my back.

To be honest I don't have any experience with putting those in a tank, but a few general observations. The dirt probably isn't good for the tank. It may well be loaded with nitrates and phosphates. Great for plants, crap for a tank. I would say report them with some potting material from the pet store or if they don't have any go to a plant nursery and ask for something to plant in that has no fertilizers in it, they could probably help you.

Might be a nice idea if it could stick out of the water some too. Bamboo will live mostly in water, but it needs air too. No doubt it would last longer that way.

Sorry I can't help more, hopefully someone with lots of experience with this plant can teach us both something.
Cheers dude.

Well..I'm not magic, nor a man, nor fat..nor do I have ANY hair on my chest..but! (and I thought I posted already ...hmmm)
I've had bamboo in my tank and it's great :) The only thing I would do is keep the bamboo plants and dump the plastic containers. Most items from the dollar store are made in foreign lands where the materials may not be so safe for your fish. If mom is going back to the dollar store anytime soon, she could perhaps grab a couple of the really small red clay pots without paint or stuff on them and you could replant in those. Or..if you're in good with your LFS, perhaps get a few of their planters they are throwing away that they used for aquatic plant stock :)

I have no experience myself keeping them but I did a search on one of the sites I frequent. Some say that you can and some say you can't. But this one guy has kept them for 2 years in his aquarium with no problem. Hope that helps.

I have 1 in my 50 gal tank, it's the bamboo (good luck) that sits in water? I took it rinsed it clean and buried it in the gravel, it is growing and has been in there for months. Good Luck..><>:)

i know this question is not for me but i would put more plants around it or make it look part of an ancient remains and put the crabs around it to make it look like the crabs are real.
