sanjaya is voted in and not out at every episode of the show by Americans not by robots or a couple of judges. so i do not see why sanjaya's success would ruin the show... american people love sanjaya, the underdog, it is in the nature of the Americans to love the underdogs and it is a great thing because it gives a chance to a lot of less talented people. Sanjaya is very smart, he is doing the best with what he has, he does not have a big head, he is charming, he is extremely popular and it is very well like that. Furthermore he is under considerable pressure from people like you who badmouth him whereas he does not deserve it. Sanjaya is the epitome of the great American spirit : do what you decided to do and do not care about the bigots who criticize you....

I believe so. Simon already said this will be his last season for sure if Sanjaya wins. Simply because he's not a very good singer but he always makes it because he has a big fan base. American Idol has reached the point of "jumping shark"

Jumping the shark is a metaphor that was originally used to denote the tipping point at which a TV series is deemed by a viewer to have passed its peak, or has introduced plot twists that are illogical in terms of everything that has preceded them. Once a show has "jumped the shark," the viewer senses a noticeable decline in quality or feels the show has undergone too many changes to retain its original charm. The term has also evolved to describe other areas of pop culture, including movie series, music, acting celebrities, or authors for whom a drastic change was seen as the beginning of the end. These changes are often attempts to attract their fans' waning attention with over-the-top statements or increasingly overt appeals to sex or violence. Some have broadened its use to simply describe any decline in appeal for the subject in question, without requiring a significant "jump the shark" moment.

To me, yes. American Idol is goind downhill at this point, with Vote for the Worst and all...
but seriously, Sanjaya is a joke. The 13 year old girls need to stop voting for him. Simon supposidly remarked that he would quit his job if Sanjaya won, which is an excellent possility. :(

I doubt it. I think the only way American Idol will be ruined is when people stop watching it which may or not happen if he wins. People are voting for him. The producers of the show knew what they were getting into when they started the show by having America choose the winner. I think a lot of people are watching now just to see how bad he is...if for no other reason. Ratings wise, it would probably be a bad move if he got eliminated.

Not really, it's been pretty ruined by appealing to the lowest common denominator (American Republicans and Christians) since it's first broadcast.
