ya know i just heard on nbc news that the military was stretched to the limits......reckon they'd let them go home???? ya know don't ask don't tell, i know alot of folks in the military and about half are gay, and that's not to mention the bi-bisexuals,

or would they swallow hard and say ok you can be the army it's cool with us................

just a thought

but then they'd have to give us our rights, right? so that's why they have don't ask don't tell right. like then the government would have to accept same sex marriage and all..........

now i see their strategy

My husband is in the military, and I know lots of men and women in the all branches of the military...none of which are gay or lesbian. I think the figures that NBC is throwing out there are grossly exaggerated. How in the world could they possibly get an accurate percentage???

Not that I think it matters...whether our soldiers are gay, straight, or bi. They still signed up with Uncle Sam to fight for this country. which is more than I can say about the rest of us. They put their lives on the line every day and I think that's admirable no matter what their sexual preference is. I just have a hard time believing that the percentage of gays in the military is that high.

Nah. They wouldn't dismiss anyone. It would be HORRIBLE Public Relations. I realize that they have that whole gay don't ask don't tell policy, but that's nothing like kicking out gays in mass. They would have no support. They would see the number of troops they were pissing off (I'm sure there are a ton more gay people than we think, some married, some alone, some masquerading, some in the military, all closeted. If they sprang forth, we'd be wowed.) So no, the military would leave them in. They would just have to get a new policy.

*sigh* here we go again with another lousy question asked by somene with absolutely no concern for real world logistics.
You see, as politically incorrect as it may be to actually admit the truth, someone must. So, here I am and here we go. Let me enlighten you good folks.
The military, by its very nature and purpose tends to be bloody. And in blood, you will find all sorts of diseases. At the top of that list is HIV, followed closely by Hepatitis. HIV started in the gay community and has since spread to the rest of the world's population via promiscuity, accidental transmission and via IV drug usage -- usually the illicit kind. It's far easier for a man to give HIV to a woman (oranother man) than it isfor a woman to give it to a man. Fact. Look around you. How many people do you see with Hemophilia? The truth is, that over 98% of those people with it have all died. Now, let's start talking money. Since HIV first ecame known, the military found it necessary to test each of its members annually. Care to take a guess at the cost? Let's just say that it's astronomical. Add to that, if a service member is found to have HIV, and it was contracted while on active duty, the U.S. government (and ultimately the tax payer) is held liable and has to either treat or pay out monetarily. It dramatically takes away from any and all unit's fighting capabilities. With me so far? Let's talk logistics. On Naval ships and in ground combatant fighting units, there is something known as "The Walking Blood Bank." That is, if you happen to have the blood type and Rh Factor required to save another's life, you will be called to do a direct infusion -- no filtering if you happen to be in a front line unit or your ship is too small to have that much lab equipment available. So, whatever they guy next to you has, you are going to get. Combat readiness dictates. Do you trust the guy next to you to have been doing nothing but abstanance or using the utmost in safe sex practices? Guess you'd be pretty much screwed wouldn't you. And all because of political correctness and some genius SOB who never had any love for the military anyway. Now, magine trying to ride shotgun over a bunch of horny guys away from home and in a foreign port with brothels up the wazoo... Regardless of sexual orientation, it becomes a logistical nightmare. And those nightmares cost the tax payers a fortune. Gays have always been in the military service, serving proudly, and probably always will be in the military. It's a matter of limiting your liabilities. Simple matter of fact.

I think you just about answered your own question. I live in a city that is well-known for its gay culture. It seems to me that gay men are on a higher intellectual scale than straight. Maybe they have to be smarter, in general.

Therefore, the military would have a real problem since it is generally populated by unknowledgeable folks. In fact, if all gays came out of the closet and were rejected by society, the whole country would be in even more trouble than it is.

A reasonable hetero.

In a lot of trouble I would say. I mean who cares who or what you are if you can honour your country and fight for your freedom. I think it's a silly thing that the military has.

Actually...[rhetorically if they find out your gay and the unit is ready to deploy then they will send you anyways. After the unit redeploys to America...then they will chapter you out.

I have no idea what you are talking about but if some gay or lesbian wants to go fight I say let him. He has more courage than me.
