In American media, if a story is worth doing, it is worth overdoing.
It is funny, you hear people say all the time that a sincere apology should help make things better. Too many people don't apologize and that makes people angry. For instance, look at Pete Rose. There are those who say if he had admitted he bet on baseball and apologized, he may well be in the Hall of Fame by now. He waited too long, so there is no chance.
Look at Imus. He apologized almost immediately. But an apology isn't good enough anymore I guess. Jesse Jackson was allowed to apologize for his illegitimate child and that the child's mother was getting money from his rainbow coalition. So he's okay. Al Sharpton was able to apologize for the Tawana Brawley fiasco (or did he ever, I don't remember) and he's okay now, too.
But Imus apologizes much quicker than they did and seemingly more sincere, and he is out. Double standard anyone?

He goes against main stream ideas while the media tends to be more skewed to the liberal side, though some would disagree. However, he is now beginning to get quite a following and campaign contributions are up. He may surprise people before all is said and done. One thing for sure, he does get people thinking about his ideas; whether they are off the wall or not. Suggest you vote for the person YOU think is best for president. Research the candidate and his/her issues then make up your own mind. Don't let the media say who you should vote for. Last time the media got into the fray of things and because people didn't vote, look at what we got....people in Flordia who couldn't read the ballots.....a candidate who took things to court....another candidate claiming to be a war hero....and then a goof ball that ended up in office. As a nation, we got exactly what we bargained for....politicians that are bought an paid for by special interest money. Sorry for the rant.

Yes! It is getting too much coverage and is probably resulting in upsetting many people. If there wasn't so much coverage, then Imus would probably still have his job since he did apologize and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would go sit down somewhere!

I think the people who were insulted handled it badly. They demanded that he apologize but then refused to accept the apology. What kind of behavior is that? Imus apologized, maybe suspend him two weeks and that should have been the end of it. The punishment he got was far greater than the blunder he made.

Yes. What's worse is his supporters will mistakenly believe he was denied his Freedom of Speech rights, and Al Sharpton will remain on TV even longer. Here's my idea. Just put Imus' hair in cornrows, make him go on every talk show on TV with that hairstyle, let the Rutgers women's basketball team kick his butt in a good game of One-on-One and let it go!

What happened to Imus is an injustice and should continue to get coverage until Justice is performed and he gets his job back.
Free Mumia and Imus.

Yes I think the media are CRAZIER than the people who do crazy things!!!
However he should not have said it..........go to the girls and give a public apology.
I have listened to his show before and if he would have called female bodybuilders "testosterone dikes" I would have just laughed..he would not have offended me!! LOL
But then again I do not offend easlily and I consider the source.

We talked about this all day in my communications class. I really think its kind of stupid, I mean since when did "nappy haired" automatically mean black people? I think the people who THINK his comments were racist are actually the racist ones themselves. I'm mainly pissed about how everyone is mad about the "nappy hair" comment and not the fact that he called women "whores". In society it seems that racism is a lot more important than sexism, which they should be equal in importance. They are blowing this thing way out of proportion. Look at Carlos Mansia, he makes fun of Mexicans all the time, but I guess it's ok since he's mexican himself. Racism should NOT be excepted whether it's a person making fun of another race, or a person making fun of their own race. It's really ridiculous, and i'm tired hearing about it.

Most definately and not only that if it was Howard Stern people probably would'nt say that much about it.
Anything to take the focus off of the war I would assume.
It was wrong, but what is your opinion about him getting fired?

What has Imus done
for the Community ?
Definitely he said things he should not have said and deserves some form of punishment. The comments that were made by Don Imus were stupid and unfunny.
But do you know about the good things?
He has raised tons of money for:
The Imus Ranch for children with Cancer
The Wounded Warrior Project
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
(state of the art rehab center)
HYPERLINK "http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/" http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/
He also raises money for:
Autism Awareness and research
(His son is not autistic unlike others who step up to the plate only after it affects them)
The Hackensack Pediatric Cancer Facility
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
He brought to the attention of his Guest Politicians that the families of the armed forces who lost their lives only got $12,000. (That was a disgrace!) I believe it has been raised to 100,000. (But money still won’t bring back loved ones)
He harshly questioned Generals and Politicians regarding what was happening at Walter Reed Hospital.
He has insulted Jews, Catholics, Gays, Blacks, and EVERYONE else. (He is an equal opportunity insulter)
He has apologized!
What has Al Sharpton Done
for the Community ?
He advocates for some who need advocating. However, we listen to clearly to him…because he has a BIG mouth.
Has Al Sharpton ever apologized for his role in the Tawana Brawley episode? (Read below)
What work has Al Sharpton done to stop rappers from calling black women names?
Sharpton is perhaps contributing to the continued cycle of racism in America. Martin Luther King, Jr. advocated peaceful protests, while Al Sharpton calls for destruction of individuals’ lives to promote equality.
Has Sharpton spoken out about “Hip Hop” radio personalities referring to whites as “Crackers”?
Has he tried to educate the young black community against using ethnic slurs toward one another? (That’s not right either)
In November of 1987, a 15-year-old girl named Tawana Brawley was found in upstate New York, covered with feces and racial slurs written in charcoal. Brawley, who is black, claimed to have been abducted and raped by six white law enforcement officers.
Sharpton raised hell and sought the “Heads” of the officers and “painted”
Steven Pagones, then a local prosecutor, who was one of those six men.
Pagones’ wife left him and he was disgraced. (He has since recovered). In a trial that began December 3, 1997 in a Duchess County, New York courtroom, Pagones sought damages for defamation that escalated during the course of the trial from $150 million to $395 million, but returned to $150 million during the eventual damages phase. Just over two weeks later, on July 29, the jury awarded Pagones $345,000 in damages, about two percent of the amount he originally sought. Sharpton was found liable for $65,000 of the total damages.
Tawana Brawley eventually moved to Virginia and admitted to making up the story. Sharpton has been given credibility by a white population who is afraid to say anything against him lest they be branded as Racist.
