Because become can't agree what that betterment /is/. A christian might want to emphasize saving souls; a socialist, ecconomic equality; a libertarian, personal freedom; and so forth. Some views for the betterment of the world are absolutely exclusive of others. Islam considers conversion to Islam a betterment. Multiculturalists would presumably balk at that. Capitalists see greater material prosperity as betterment. Environmentalists see it as a step down from traditional societies that live at harmony with nature.

It costs less to break then to fix.
I honestly believe in mthe power of gov't to do good things, but the current admin only listens if you say what they want to hear.
We try, but what we think is best and what others think can be vastly different. We can rationalize alot.

theres lots of questions here. whats the question America is only 230 years old. do you want water to come out your facet. do you want to turn on a light when its dark do you want warm water to come out your shower do you want to walk to a market everyday and buy food do you want to warm milk from a cow after you learn how to milk it or a goat do you want to feed and water that cow or goat and get fresh water everyday a the lake
