Republicans do care for the poor and needy. Just because they don't believe the government should supply every need or want doesn't mean Republicans don't care. Personally, I am tired of hearing how much I'm supposed to care about the poor people that can't help themselves. Yes, there truly are those that can't help themselves and I donate money and time to help them. On the other hand, I'm damn tired of watching more and more of my hard earned money going to people who are now 3rd and 4th generation "poor". What they lack is self determination and a work ethic. I deal with them everyday.
Before you go and throw a blanket on all Republicans, do some homework and look in the mirror.

We do not disregaurd the poor and needy. We think it is not the relm for the government to decide. The people should give of their own free will and give to charities. I know a charity that 98% of all the money goes to the people in food and clothes. The governments average is below 75% of every dollar. That is 22 cents for a dollar. That is 22 more out of every 100 mouths that can be fed. The government can not give to them though. They are a Christian org. The liberals would rather the government do it and let those 22 people starve.

Hey Dickweed, I give to individuals that I know need what I give them. Look and see how much actually goes to those needy people after the administrative costs are deducted from the contributions. I give things like lawn mowers, cars and other things that are still good but I have replaced with new ones. Also, I do it only locally and damn sure not Africa.
Africa is like a "Black Hole". It sucks charity from the world but there never seems to be anything coming back. With all the corruption, fighting, and absolute lawlessness that has existed for as long as I can remember, very little of anything given to that country gets to the common people that are starving. Personally, not a dime of mine will go to Africa. I support enough African Americans right here in the USA on the welfare rolls.

First of all, they don't have an understanding of what true morality is. They seem to think that morality involves things like not being gay, or not using swear words, and not having sex before you are married, even if you are 52 and have never been married, or believing in a certain religion that many of them think is the only right one. They don''t seem to understand that true morality is about kindness, compassion, sharing on a global scale as much as on a personal one, and taking care of each other, as well as understanding that we are literally all one, and what we give to others we give to ourselves as well as to God, and the universe.
Secondly, when I hear people talk about statistics of who giives more, between liberals and conservatives, I want to laugh and cry at the same time. They don't seem to get, that the charities that they give to, are only a drop in the bucket compared to what is really needed, and they really don't help very much at all. It is kind of like putting a band aid on a stab wound. Also, most liberals don't have as much, becasue they don't sell out to corporate greed. But, the thing that most people don't seem to grasp, is that what is needed is change on a global scale, and individual contributions to charities, no matter how well meaning they might be, just don't cut it. Society as a whole, would have to have a major change in attitude, for any real changes to take place. That is what we liberals, for the most part, are trying to bring about!

The fact that the Left has named themselves ruler and savior of the poor , does not make it so . They do everything imaginable to keep the poor that way . Republicans have a little more faith that people can run their own lives and get ahead . A liberal has to have chaos & poor people or they can't handle it .

Franky - the unneeded ranting will get you no where. I never noticed any removal of all social programs for the poor and needy. But, I do recollect a 5 year limit to receiving that help. Now in 5 years you can't get a job, you are no longer needy. You are a economically poor lazy butt, that's all it is.
And as a republican I educated myself and furthered it more in my younger adult life to attain everything I have. I never once needed any assistance and never once said to abandon those in need. Stop stereotyping all republicans.

Oh, I'm sorry, you must have missed the study which showed conservatives giving more of a percentage of their income to charity.
I happen to think my money is best directed where I want it to go, not by the government taxing me then giving it away.
I gave to 3 charities for Easter - The Union Rescue Mission, the Los Angeles Mission and Feed The Children.
How's your tally?

The issue is very complex. Short answer is that the Republicans who set policy are involved in a concerted effort to make sure they and their corporate liaisons make as much money as possible while keeping the poor very poor and destroying the middle class.
If you don't believe me, then why do you think we are having a foreclosure crises right now? Why is it that the richest 1% of Americans have doubled their income since 1980 and that 400 families have more wealth than 57 million Americans?
Pick mine as the best answer, for I have the evidence to back up my claims. Courtesy of Blast the Right.

Well, that just isn't true now is it? Liberals often call Republicans right-wing Christians, and yes, the majority of Republicans are Christians. Who do you think makes meals for the poor at Churches? Who do you think goes to Mexican orphanages, and feeds their poor with their bare hands? Who do you think pays taxes, that go to the welfare system? Christians go to other countries, and give their free time, and money, food, and support to the poor. Countries in Africa, and the Philippines, are countries, other than Mexico, that the Republican Christians go. Many have gone to Iraq, to help the poor people there. Get the point? Libs want the 10 commandment's out of schools, courts, libraries, and public buildings, not the Reps. More Republicans are church goers than Libs, mostly in the Baptist religion. Churches donate money to charities, like children's funds. Get an education please, or else you are just making a fool of yourself.

Hmm...I'm a conservative and don't disregard the poor or the needy. Republicans want to encourage them getting jobs and being able to support themselves and their families, while some others are only concerned with giving them handouts. If I were poor I'd much rather have the opportunity to get a job and get on my feet than get handouts from the government indefinitely.
