I think when Blacks stop calling themselves the 'n' word when telling jokes and when hip hop 'artists' stop calling black females 'hos' then we'll probably stop this mess.
Al Sharpton is the last person who should be speaking out against Imus. He's never apologized for the ruining of the reputation of the unjustly accused when Tawana Brawley falsely accused several prominent white men of raping her and smearing her body with human feces. The case was twenty years or more ago! He never apologized!

Imus has always been obnoxious, that's how he makes his living as a shock jockey.
I cant believe he "went there", but...
personally....I thought freedom of speech was in our constitution.
I just hate that this situation allowed Sharpton a platform to run his obnoxious mouth !!!
The bottom line is, its all about the sponsors, once they start pulling advertising dollars, you can kiss your show goodbye Imus. Realistically, a 2 week suspension wasn't going to be an option.

I dont think that the 2 week suspension was sufficient; if Bob Ryan got a month for what he said about Mrs Jason Kidd, then Imus deserved at least that long for what he said. Having said that, dont we have enough Opie and Anthonys on the air? Dont you think Viacom/CBS is just going to replace him with a younger shock jock? At least Imus had intelligent guests.

One of our problems is that we tolerate "reverse discrimination" out of some misconception of equality and guilt. Also, we do not have the leadership that is needed in a situation such as this. Imus, himself, should have apologized and then fought back.
I agree that the punishment did not fit the crime. A two week suspension was sufficient and then he should have quit his belittling people for any reason whatsoever and stuck to upgrading his show which was informative and fun at a certain level.

The masterful Don Imus should not have been fired. Period! However, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are just contributing to the ever increasing racial divide. James Earl Ray should've fired another round...

"my opinion is that firing imus will not change one thing in the area of race relations .and imus was out of line he deserved to have a 2 week suspension but firing him was out of line"
Pretty much sums up my thoughts. But what about freedom of speech in this country?
Yeah, and Al Sharpton is a hypocrite.

I respectfully disagree. Firing Imus shows that the powers that be are not going to tolerate ignorance AND that they listen to their audience. Now if they could only do something about O'Reilly...
However, I also agree that Al Sharpton is a big hypocrite!

The only thing that this situation and situations like it will do is build the membership of the KKK, NSM, skinhead and neo-nazi groups, because there are a lot of rational people that only need something like this to go over the edge.
I can guarantee that there will be at least 10,000 new members of these groups tomorrow because of what has gone on over the last week. There's only so much bulls*** people can take before they fall off the deep end.
What are black people going to do when all white people are forced to become nazi's? Don't they know anything about nazi rage? Obviously not.
