I think that to be fair, in this day and age when people know that racism is wrong, there should be no other punishment for being racist other than that in itself is the punishment. If Imus is a racist, people should judge him accordingly. The same for Al Sharpton and Reverend Jackson. I do not know if they have ever used their power to help anybody other than black people. If they do not, then that is racism, and they should be judged accordingly. We're all adults, we know right from wrong. If Imus had chosed to express himself in a porno video instead of a radio show he would not be facing backlash. Same as if he was a musician. It's not fair. But I think black people can handle that kind of thing. They know when someone is stupid and when someone is not. Right? We all know that the dynamic duo are purely out to help 'their' people and not anybody else. We know they are racist but still, we don't demand they be refused any publicity for their remarks do we? Better yet, imagine someone with some status demanding that these two not be acknowledged in the media? Wow can you imagine the uproar then!

Don Imus gets fired over his comments. We hear similar words being used by a lot of hip hop artists all the time. Do
people not find that offensive? If yes, then shouldn't all these hip hop artists be held accountable too? If no, then isn't that discrimination? I know what Snoop Dogg said....we are talking about da hos in da hood and not young college athletes. But what different does it make? We are all human beings....and all laws and/or rules should be the same for everyone regardless of race.....shouldn't there be civil rights for all races then? Better yet, get rid of civil rights and why don't we all live on this planet peacefully and in harmony as one race....THE HUMAN RACE

Imus never said anything about race the public made it about race. However, he does have a history of saying a host of OTHER racial comments, not only about black people, but other things about the Jewish, the Arabs (i.e. he calls them "towel- heads") and so many others that were offensive. So did anyone ever consider that he was fired because of a pattern that he has created and not based solely on this one incident?

because the white folks are afraid to say ANYTHING to the black folks who will just turn it around as an act of discrimination act anwhen trying to point out they are doing the same thing as Imus did only difference i truly beleive Imus had a serious slip of the tongue and did not intend to harm anyone or create such havoc. So what will happen to the rappers now, they cant say b$%^&s and Ho's now can they? Or is that the double standard? If so, I think we all ought to raise some real HELL!

It was a silly mistake, especially for a man with his many years of broadcasting experience. But...
There is no doubt whatsoever that the ubiquity of Black slang thanks to rap artists, Black comedians, films and pop culture in general paved the way for Mr. Imus' downfall. How?
Hip Hop's clothing, mannerisms and yes manner-of-speech has become so popular across all races that I see Hispanic teenagers with baggy, "prison-fit" jeans hanging off their bottoms, Korean kids flashing "bling" and jail tatts and the whitest kids in the most conservative suburbs wearing those ridiculous over-sized baseball caps while greeting each other by saying things like "Sup homes wat the dilly is in the hizzle?"
I asked a young teen I know how things were going at his (all white, expensive, private) school and you know how he responded? "A-ite. It's all chill, totz."
"Urban chic" is all-in, my brotha from a notha motha, and it's everywhere. So it only follows that co-opting words like "niga" and "ho" is a natural part of this process of emulation.
How can people of all ages and all races become so comfortable with a sub-culture's jargon and NOT feel perfectly comfortable using ALL of it? Imus just made the mistake for all of us.
And, yo, mah man, if anybody can't deal wid dat, jus holla cuz 'cause Baphomet is in the hooowwwse!

ok..if white men in the PAST were racist, why are we still being stereotyped? Arent the MINORITIES the ones complaining that they're always being stereotyped blah, blah, blah......I believe racism is an individual thing, you either are or you're not.....I am not prejudice, but for some reason, in the next 20 years I see things taking a dramatic change, we will all be segregated once again....but hey, thats what these minorities want right?? to be acknowledged as a race, not individuals right?

Amen to that! I'm so sick of the double standard! Sharpton and Jackson (nothing but hyporcites) can kiss Don Imus's *** for all I care.
Until the black community steps up and tells people like Snoop Dog and 50 Cent to shove it where the sun don't shine (most rap lyrics are WORSE than what Imus said!) then I won't take their whining seriously!
Granted, I don't like what Imus had to say, but what hell happened to free speech in this country . . . oh wait, if your white you don't have free speech I forgot about that!

It is indeed racist if anyone says it, I guess because blacks have been tortured with racism for.. 400 years or so. And that's just in this country. Before it was even settled at all. Blacks sometimes feel they have all the permission, because they have had enough of it to deal with it. Society will change when racism becomes a "kiddy" thing, hopefully.

NO! It's racist when ANYONE uses that language. Everyone who use racist language must be held accountable, because it perpetuates hate and degrades people.

We're in a time period when white is bad....shame on our forefathers and we're taking the punishment for their mistakes. Isn't it time that there is a balance and everyone is equal....how about now.
