The amount people lose right after birth varies dramatically. If you had a lot of water weight, you’ll lose more. I lost 20 lbs in 10 days because of water retention.

Keep up the healthy diet you probably adopted in pregnancy and walk, walk, walk!

There's a certain amount of weight that people lose when they have the baby. I hate to burst your bubble, but those 17 lbs may just be from pushing the baby and after birth out and not having all that amniotic fluid in you anymore. It hasn't been that long since you had your baby, so if you eat healthy and get on a work out routine (don't over do it since it hasn't even been a month since your delivery) and you'll be able to loose most if not all of the 48lbs. Becareful thought because alot of women (myself included) gained the weight back after loosing it. I went back down to 100 with my son, but gained the 30 lbs back. When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter (current pregnancy), I weighted exactly what I did the day I delivered my son.

I had my son May 24th, 2006. The first month I lost five pounds and then gained it back and more. I weighed 125 before I got pregnant, 150 the week before I delivered, 140 the week after, and 175 now, almost a whole year later. I exercise now more than ever. I can't seem to figure out how to lose all this weight to get back to my original weight.

Most likely it is okay, you've lost the baby weight, your uterus has shrunk and weighs less now, and also there's the loss of excess fluid build-up. You won't lose the rest of the weight this fast, and don't try too. Just aim for losing a pound or two a week and eat healthy and you'll be okay. Breast-feeding new Moms tend to lose weight faster than those who don't breast-feed.

The majority of that weight is water, and it is normal for it to be lost so quickly in the beginning.

If you are breastfeeding, you can expect the pounds to continue falling off pretty rapidly - especially if you eat a sensible (but healthy!) diet.

I gained 44 pounds in my pregnancy and had it all lost by the 3rd month. The first 20 came off really quickly - I had to work a little for the rest!

Good or Bad depends on how much you weighed before pregnacy but then again that depends on you and how you feel about yourself!
Me, I weighed 153lbs pre-pregnacy and at the end of my pregnacy, I weighed in at 185lbs. Everyone told me how hard it would be to get back down to my size 4 figure, but the devil is a liar! I had my son 12/26/06 and at my 4week appointment on 1/26/07, I weighed in at 155lbs. So I was all baby and water. The only bad is that my skin in stretched out of whack. But other than that, the weight is gone away!!

Praise the Lord!!
Be blessed!!

A lot of weight you lose can be due to water gain during pregnancy. I have four children, and I lost about that amount of weight very quickly. If you find yourself sweating a lot, your body is discharging water gain, and this is normal. You probably have to make sure you are eating regularly because you are so busy with a newborn, also. Exhaustion can cause one to forget to eat.

Watch the rebound and use this weight loss as a time to start a really healthy lifestyle not a diet. Good Luck.
