I am sure that some atrocities were committed by both sides during this war but by most people's judgment this was a just war.

First of all the Crusade were in the Mid East Countries not in Europe. England wanted to expand not only her territory but also the Church of England, and they figured the Islamic faith was a sinful religon and they wanted to eradicate it.
