I heard from someone that this can be done, but, I need to hear it from someone that has actually done it themselves.

Dear Katie,

I just took a friend to the Social Security office a few weeks ago for him to apply for his Social Security Benefits. He is 67 years old. So, I saw the paper that had all his quarterly income records on it for his life time of working. It wasn't exactly an employment record. . . . just quarterly income reported.

He did have a gap because he lived in Australia for a some time. And he didn't have enough quarterly credits to qualify! This was a real surprise to us! A total BUMMER!

As it was explained to us, ONLY QUARTERS WHERE YOU EARNED OVER $2000.00 COUNT! So, when he worked through high school, through college and even when he was on Active Duty in the National Guard. . well, those quarters don't count! Years ago, when we were young, if you made $75 a week that was doing good! But it certainly didn't add up to $2,000 a quarter, so those quarters don't count! He is 6 quarters short.

Everybody should take some time and go to Social Security and have the person there tell them exactly where they stand. I know that I am going to do that soon, just to know where I stand.

I must say, the representatives were incredible wonderfull and did everything they could for my friend, but he didn't qualify. Everybody thinks that 40 quarters. .10 years. .Oh, I have that! Well, it just isn't that simple now is it?

Sincerely,
Connie111

I don't think it can be done. That's not what they're paid to do. You have to keep track of it yourself. They will send you a thing every once in a while that tells you how much your earned every year.

I get it every year, it says how many credits I've gotten each year, how much I've made, and such. It gets mailed to me, so I don't know how one goes about asking for it.
