Heya just wondering if the sportster 883low was more for a man or women. Was thinking of getting my husband one from the harely dealership here'. He used to ride all the time growing up. Hes 5'3" so the low would be perfect. My husband likes it but i looked at some on ebay and they are selling them for their wives? Thanks in advance.

It's not a ladies bike although a lot of women ride them because they are smaller than a big twin.I have an old Ironhead Sporster that I ride once in awhile, but prefer my Lowrider or Wide Glide for longer trips.I know several other men that ride Sporsters because that is what they can afford and they are very happy to have them,

Alot of perspective on the Sportster.... Heres the Deal: don't let all the experts out there sway you or intimidate you on your desires to own a HD. The Sportster is the most consistent driven HD that HD has had in production for the last 25 years. Sure its the low cost entry level one, but they are fun, they are nimble and they can be tweaked to handle any type of rider out there unless your 7ft tall.lol. The good news is you can find nice low mile used ones that have been well maintained at a bargain price. bonus! Now unless your pocket book is thick, the 2003 and older are the the ones with more vibration the the 2004 and newer. The bargains lie in the 2003 and below range, great bikes but older technology. Just get one and ride safe, catch some wind, you won't be sorry.

sportsters are the most affordable of the harley line. it isnt specifically geared for women. its not wise to discount the sportster, even an 883. it can easily be made into a very potent little hot rod that would be able to be too much for ur average rookie to handle. i can say this from actual saddle time on a modd'ed 883 last season, and compared to my 1200, this bike was dam near a rocket.

the girl that owns this bike is from canada. she put on both the stage1 and 2 to the motor, and had cams geared more for the torque side of the spectrum. this bike had a hell of a response when u grabbed a handful of throttle, and it would easily flick thru the twisties of southeast ohio. her bike would get ur old man in trouble....her bike had alot more torque and power than my stock 1200.

and about the comment that sportsters wont travel well....u will be the weakest link in the chain. the above 883 mentioned was riden.....not trailered...from somewhere in northern canada all the way to the buckeye. a sportster properly set up will make a decent and affordable bike to go on very long trips. i've taken my bike on 400 and almost 500 mile jaunts in 1 sitting, and that is not stopping unless its for gas, food, or bathroom.

the 1200n nightster has a saddle height of 25", and motor wise, would be bigger than the 883. sportsters are a easy bike to work with, and is a fun bike to ride. those that say they're just for women or they're 'girls bikes' obviously hasnt ridden 1.

The sportster was the origonal Harley racing bike. It's a sports bike. It's light. fast . and a lot of fun. It can be a pain on a long trip, but that's not what it's for. Many woman like the bike because it is light and very easy to ride. You either like it or you don't., If he has an image problem, then maybe he should go for a $23.000 bike. He should test ride any bike before you buy it.
Like I said, you either like it or you don't. I love it when I smoke one of those geezer gliders on the road.

If your serious about getting him a sportster 883, might I suggest that you think about getting the 883C instead. It is the custom model, and has a bigger gas tank, has the forward controls (brake and gear shift). I believe that the cost is just about the same, or if you like there are a bunch on the used market now. And, I mean relatively new models with hardly any mileage on them. The two sites that you want to visit are; The Harley Davidson website, and go to used bikes, or "Lets-ride.com". Their classified section has bikes for all makes and models and are all across the US. Good Riding.

I at present journey an 07 883L and luxuriate in the heck out of it ,that's have been given a seat top of 25 inch's ,I placed a stripper seat on mine that decreased it purely somewhat greater and that i discover it truly mushy and it seems so lots greater helpful then the inventory seat ,so a techniques as gas tanks circulate at present no producer makes a bigger tank for the 07 or the 08 Sportster's you could circulate on the element of two hundred miles on an entire tank of gas with the inventory peanut tank so a techniques I play it risk-free and top off at approximately one hundred fifty miles or for sort of three hours time clever ,i'm getting on the element of 60 miles to the gallon

If you like the sportster consider the 1200. I have a 1200R with a stage one upgrade and I could embarrass the big Harley's on any given day. If you think your husband would like more of a cruiser I would go with the big bike. The bigger Harley's aren't actually taller they are just heavier and have bigger engines.

The popular reason that the Sportster is called a "girl's" bike is because a simple rule of thumb when buying a bike is not to buy anything bigger than you can pick up if you drop it. This applies to men also. There WILL come a time that the bike is going to go over, and if you can't get it back up............well, figure it out!

If he/you do any serious riding Sportster is NOT for you.
You can find other Harley models that are pretty low to the ground. Sportsters are exactly what the name implies. Sporting around.

The are too short and too tall to handle well. We had them lined up for work in the independent shop I worked in. If you all are dead set on buying a Harley, get a real one. Harleys generally have low seat height.
