The answer to your question is that no one really knows what triggers an ice age or when the next one will begin.

I'll go along with my colleage, the other geologist, and point out that we're in an interglacial period at the moment. That means that the "Ice Age" never ended; we're just enjoying one of several, brief, warm periods that break it up into segments. The next glacial snap is not easy to predict, but we are pretty sure that we're heading into it right now.
All of the last glacials were preceded by episodes of dramatic global warming. So, we appear to be right on track.
Don't expect major ice any time soon though. It could take anywhere from 100 to 1000 years.
I hope.

contra to Al Gore we are entering one. Just because we have flukes in the cycle doesn't mean we are not entering an ice age. What earth quakes can do (look at the Palisades in NJ) and you will see raw power at work. Look at volcanoes and you will comprehend what pollution is - man maybe powerful but we are still pimple in this cosmos.

We're actually due for an ice age right about now...
They occur every 10,000 to 20,000 years, and that's about how long ago the last one was.

Ice ages happen about every 40,000 to 100,000 years. You just missed the last one by 10,000 years.

The more water vapor in the atmosphere the more violent the storms will be. This winter has broke many records for low temp.
