The carb has been rebuilt seems as though somthing in the computer is causing it to work inproperly, and since the car is so old I thought by by- passing the whole computer control system it might be a cheaper way to repair the problem. Tried to get a control module from the junk yard and no luck seems as though I might not be the only person with this problem .

the short answer is 'yes'. The computer controlled carburetor used solenoid controlled metering rods to alter the fuel mixture. The conventional carb will work just fine provided you make an allowance for the choke function and that you don't mind the check engine light being on.

You don't say why you need the carb. Most carbs can be rebuilt. the computerized carb is not any more difficult than the regular; you should look for a rebulder in your area and save yourself some money.

again, I don't know what you mean by 'messed up'. I don't question whether the carb is the problem or not, but many people condem the carburetors when it is something else.
If someone told you that it needs a carb, you might seek a second opinion unless its pouring black smoke out the back from the carb flooding out which in that case I'd recommend you having the carb rebuilt.

hope that helps

The only choices the S10 had was the 2.5 4 banger and the 2.8 v6 and the 4.3 v6. Gm made carb models non computerised for the 2.5 and 2.8 but you will have to order that. I suspect not too many engines with them on it in the bone yards any more. A few suggestions would be a chevy monza for the 4 banger carb and the olds omega 1981 2.8 carb. Good luck.
