Have I got a resource for YOU!
This is a link to a site that presents common knowledge of the Elizabethan era as set forward by Renaissance Faire performers, in the interests of accurately portraying life in the time of Shakespeare.
Here's a direct link to what Elizabethans did to pass the time: http://renaissance.duelingmodems.com/compendium/45.html
P.S. theatre wasn't the only entertainment form - you could always go to a bear pit to wager on dogs attacking a bear or maybe attend a hanging - GREAT FUN!
Sure, we think of those things as SICK now, but they lived pretty short, brutish lives.

There are plenty of rocky cliffs in britain, but in elizabethan times there were no such things as holidays, the concept had not been invented,if you did not work you could not get paid, the wealthy people of the age had houses in the country and in london, when it got very hot in the summer,or when there was disease in the city they went to their country estates, the beaches at that time were not used for leisure at all,the people enjoyed their brief leisure time at bear baiting shows, the theatre, fairs, things like that. Beaches were not really developed for leisure until the 19th century, and then only for the well off section of society,it was not until workers had paid holidays that beaches and the sea side became a big leisure destination, blackpool was the first resort that got very popular, all the mill workers in the north went there on their weeks holiday, but not in the elizabethan era.

Well, the biggest thing was theatre. Look up "Elizabethan theatre" or the Globe theater in London, and you should find a lot of information.

Shakespeare wrote his plays during Elizabeth's time (I assume you are speaking of Elizabeth 1, not #2, who is the queen right now).
