Why is it that my DSL modem works on some phone jacks, and receives the feed, but not on others. It's really annoying because it works on the upstairs jacks, but none of the downstairs ones. Strangely enough, all the phone jacks have a dial tone, and work with any phone, but when I connect the DSL modem and router, my modem will not detect any DSL feed.

How do I get DSL to run through these jacks? What da' problem is?

DSL uses a part of the phone line which your phones don't use.. the fact that you get a dialtone doesn't really mean much except the voice part of the line is getting through the jack. the band DSL needs might be bad or filtered. Your best bet would probably be to get a truck roll from your phone provider to check the wiring. Do you have underground phone cables or tower/poles feeding to your house?
anywayz.. chances are you won't be able to fix this yourself easily. The field tech should have gear to diagnose the problem quickly... but whether it's a quick fix is another question.

You must have one filter on any socket with a phone, fax, answering machine or modem attached as well as the one you connect the modem to. Also if your wiring is parallel, in other words the same pair of cables connects from one socket to the next, it should work, but if any equipment takes the input from the line and provides it's own output it will interrupt the dsl. The quality of the cabling and connections, and the length of cable will have some effect. If you have multiple lines, only one of them will have dsl signalling.

Are you putting a noise filter between the jack and the DSL modem? That could be the problem.

the easiest way is to install a DSL splitter at the NID (grey box on the side of the house) or in the Smartpanel if your house has structured wiring. depending on the type cable used in your home for telco (hopefully at least Cat 3) use pair 1 for telephone and pair 3 for data. this way you don't have to install line filters on all the phones. if your home has older wiring with only 2 pairs (red/green and yellow/black). then use pair 1-red/green for voice and yellow/black for data.
