I mean, you have things to do and you cannot get the person to be quiet long enough to tell them you gotta get busy. They talk and talk and linger. What do you do?

Yes, and I usually will tell them , I'm sorry but I really can't stand here and talk to you I have to get these things done. and walk away after I said good bye.

That is definitely a difficult situation...there is this guy at my school who just appears and starts talking to me, and he will NOT leave me alone! I despise talking to him, and he usually turns up when I am busy...basically, what I usually try to do is politely hint that I have to go off somewhere or that I will talk to them later
e.g.
Him: "So what are you doing?"
Me: "Oh just some work that I am really trying to concentrate on"
Him: "Uh huh...so did you see that game last night?"
Me: "Umm no...(goes back to work)...uhhh sorry to ignore you, but I REALLY need to get this done...maybe we can chat later"
(if the person still doesn't leave I try to get up and say I have to go to the bathroom)
Hope you can get that annoying person off your back though, regardless of what method you use!

My dad does that when I am on the phone. I will be busy, and he just keeps going on and on and on. I try to hint by the tone in my voice that I got to go, but he never catches on!

yeah i was in the ocean and this girl came up to my friend and i and started talking about shows like degrassi (seriously) i knew that i needed to get out of there fast, but i had to wait until her mother called her back.
