I put a cable through my front wheel yesterday for security. I got out of work late and hopped on the bike. I got 3 feet when the cable wound itself around the hub. I spent the next half hour unwinding the cable. Fortunately, no damage was done except to my ego.

Any other good (bad) stories from you folks?

Yeah many times, first when I was learning to ride I decided to ride my bike up a dry river bed. Those rocks are very unforgiving.

Second time I can remember I was racing at night. I was doing about 120 mph across a dam when I seen a back hoe parked across it in my head light. Ended up hitting a rock wall and totaling my bike. Only thing that saved me was the fact that I went over the bars and landed in the reservoir.

Year after that I was parked along the street and for some reason I had locked the front wheel. Needless to say when I pulled out of the spot the wheel wouldn't straighten and I dumped the bike in the on coming traffic lane.

Couple years ago I took my bike up camping and went up a steep gravel hill. That wasn't the bad part, the bad part was coming down the next morning and couldn't make the slight turn and dropped the bike in the creek.

Have many more "stupid" stories but will save them for another time.

Don't feel bad about the cable as I've done that & a couple other things. The worst was when I was off-road on steep
mountainside & was so captivated by Canadian Rockies seen with the peaks sticking out of lowland clouds my foot went down just as I let go of throttle (it was the wrong foot & there was a small cliff). My body halted draped over a tree limb & dirt bike landed upright between tree and rock face. To get to my bike involved falling off limb. Rolled my wheels down to an abandoned logging road 100 meters distant. My bike? Just fine but tummy was raw & purple for 3 weeks.
.....Last summer on another mountain I had returned to a graveled roadbed & was moving about 40 km/h around tight
turn when large black bear was revealed immediately ahead.
It began stand upright assisted by a large boulder. I goosed
the throttle, sounded my horn, and blasted past just as bear
did a fast Texas Two-Step dance move. It was, as they say, a close run thing. I don't dance bear here until we kiss.

i was camping out in the dunes and took my dirt bike along. after setting up camp i went for a ride on the bike. there is a large dune in front of me, on the back side is what is known as the "bowl". this can be a very fun jump if you pick up alot of speed, you can go 25-35 feet in the air. so thats exactly what i did. little did i know that there was a motor home on the other side right in my way. my front wheel went through the side of the motor home, i went through the window just above the new hole and landed ontop of a sleeping teenager who was very pissed! that was by far my stupidest thing. i should have taken a look to make sure there was nothing on the back side of the bowl. i didnt break anything, just very sore. even the bike was fine. and i made some new friends the hard way. they call from time to time to invite me to drop in, just not literaly, lol.

My last bike, I was doing some repairs and it was out of comission for several weeks. The building management is really strict about only working, good condition vehicles being kept in the garage, so i had to mock it back up with the fairings and tank when I wasn't working on it. Finally, I was ready to take it for the test drive. I forgot that I had taken all the bolts out of the right lower fairing and it was just resting there supported by the slider... as soon as I turned out of my parking stall the fairing fell off the bike and slid 10 feet, getting pretty scratched up in the process.

yeah Actually it is a scooter I put a chain through the rear wheel . The electric start did want to work so I had to kick start it and the chain cable went through the plastic body cost $77.00 of damages. I pull the throttle to hard to park it in my drive way and i went through the gate and got stuck between my dads car and the fence

Oh yeah!

I put a disc lock on my rizla rep, rushed from work to bust a move and get out on the bike and backed it out the garage....crunch ££££££

And yes it came with the bright reminder cord thing.......

Looked good coiled up on the kitchen side!

Very recently....... rushing again, the lads were phoning up- 'where are you loser?' 'Putting my wheel back in I replied, just had a new tyre fitted, i'll be ther in 10!'

So I chucked the wheel back in (rear) and set off cautiously, as any one knows a new tyre is covered in slippery stuff.

As i'm riding through town I figured i'd just pump the rear brake and give it a try.....BANG!!

That's odd? its never done that before, i'll give it another pump, feels a bit spongy, try again, pump pump.

No drama, i'll check it in a bit when I stop.

Pulls up at a red, and gets a boy racer sat revving his motor alongside, 'right you loser, race on' I thought, I revved her up slipped the clutch on the green light and........

Sat there, wheel fully lit up going nowhere, smoke all over the place!

In my haste to throw the wheel back in i'd not secured the rear brake caliper properly and when i'd dabbed the brake it had gripped the disc, spun round, unscrewed the banjo and spurted brake fluid all over the new tyre, and it had time to pool up while I was waiting for the lights to change.

The boy racer was impressed with the burnout

I was shi++ing it!

I was parking my bike on the street outside my house when my cute neighbor pulled up in her car. We talked a bit about how hard it is to find a parking space on our road and what a good idea a bike is for that. I wasn't really concentrating on what i was doing, because of cute girl, when my foot slipped on some stones and the bike fell over with me on top of it. Very, very embarrasing!

stupid things is not the right words for "learning experiences"

like dropping your bike on a steep hill & have it slide down to the bottom where there is a 9 ft deep trench that is just wide enough for the bars to scrape on as it falls to the bottom..seems bikes land wheels up( sort of like bread landing butter side down) had to jump in on top of the bike & hit the kill switch cos it was still running ...took 3 mates to help lift it out...but it was good..they didnt give me sh*t at all..(sarcasim ..lowest form of wit)

seems ive left the road so many times cant remember half of them..or is it Alzhimers setting in??

& yes you can fall asleep riding your bike..but not for long... going through the trees wakes you up pretty damb quick..

& yes you can get a bike bogged....usually about half way through the bog....(so its no closer to go back)....down far enough so the frame & gearbox of the bike is touching the ground...& when its really boggy the only way out is to roll the bike on its side ..then pick it up & roll it again..till you get to some solid ground....which if moving fast enough when you hit the bog is about 20 yards away...

LMFAO

Fell of in the driveway whilst putiing my bike into first gear. Must have been really funny to watch me & the bike topple over in a gracefuly slow move sideways, I got up, laughing, picked the bike up, still laughing, & got back on & rode off.

No. But I saw my cousins sleeping bag get caught in his rear wheel on a trip from Texas. He didn't go down but he sure smoked up the highway with his back tire sliding along at 70 mph. Then his bike thumped all the way back to Ohio with that flat spot on his tire.He still gets mad when I bring it up.
