Please don't take one from the wild. Turtlesale is notorious for sending turtles that are sick or dead on arrival. Kingsnake can be a good place but the best place is to work with a local rescue group in your area. Do an internet search for reptile rescues, check Petfinders as many rescues now post there or even ask on your local Craigslist.org Please note that it is illegal to sell any turtles in some states and some states put restrictions on the type and number of turtles it is legal to possess--the rescues may be able to help with the laws, also.

You can probably find one at a pet store. Different turtles have different requirements. It is probably not advisable to catch one from the wild. The best idea would be getting it from a breeder, but that would be hard.

I'm not positive but can't you simply go down to your local pet store and buy a turtle?
