first, calm down. there's really no need to panic. it's not the end of the world and if you don't stress about it, it goes quick.
they'll take your regular vitals: blood pressure, weight, height, ask your family history. they will leave the room so you can get undressed. put your paper cover ups on. relax and picture a place where you have no worries. dr. will come back in and ask you to put your feet in the stirrups and scoot down to the edge of the table. you will need to open your legs just a bit and the dr. will insert a speculum into your vagina to make the cervix accessable. dr. will swab the cervix with a long q-tip to get cells for testing. dr. will remove the speculum and insert a finger or two and press on your abdomen to check for uterus size and fibroids. dr. will then do a breast exam and ask if you do self exams and show you how to do them. dr. will then ask you questions about being sexually active, birth control, and other female issues and if you have any questions. that pretty much sums it up. if you think positive, stay calm and relaxed, it will be over in no time.
fyi don't wear any powders, perfumes, or anything before the exam. i realize you said you are a virgin, but if you change your mind about that, wait until after you have your exam. you shouldn't have sex for the few days before and you will have birth control if you need it.

It sounds like you might have something going on that is not right but first I would let your mom know that you would like to the dr in plainclothes first before doing the exam so that you won't be as scared (yes, women have a right to ask for this).
Now as for the exam, depending on the reason for why you are there the dr will take a speculum (it looks like the bill of a duck) and insert it in to your vagina (and yes, they have a size just for virgins, something that I wasn't told when I had my first exam done at age 18), then take samples of your vaginal discharge to be sent off to a lab to find out if there's an infection (not all drs have microscopes in their office to find out what the sample shows).
At this time they may also feel your organs (the uterus, ovaries, and cervix) with their hands to feel for anything abnormal such as cysts for example. As well as check to make sure that they are the right size because change in size such as being bigger in size can mean something wrong.
Then the dr may do a pap smear which is just a special test to screen for cervical cancer by taking some of the cells from your cervix with a special brush. The cells are then put on a slide and sent off to the lab for analysis to make sure all is normal with them. There can be spotting for a day or two after this exam and that is normal to have occur because of the irritation from the brush that is used.
This exam in all aspects should not hurt but if it does it will be because of the following 3 reasons:
1. being tense (which is why it is very important to relax although it is normal to be a bit nervous about this since it is the first time)
2. the dr being too rough (and you can ask the dr to stop)
3. there is something wrong such as an infection
But I would definitely recommend seeing about talking to the dr in plainclothes before getting undressed.
Also, if the dr is really good, they will explain everything that they are doing when you have the exam done.

How old are you? If you're under 18, maybe you should talk to your mom about this. Unless you have a reason (infection, etc.) there is no reason to go until you are 18.
