I think the former.

The fact that advertisers were distancing themselves was not to assuage the black consumer, but consumers in general.

Bigotted racist mysoginy is not good for business.

He was fired cause of the all mighty dollar !!!. Sponsors pulled out of the Imus show cause of offensive remarks...I mean come on Howard Stern has done more outrageous stuff then what Imus did. What happend to freedom of speech in the country ??. I'm not racist are anything but censorship in this country is outta hand..everyone gets all upset over words.

neither..there are far worse things said on the air every minute. He was the victim of two people yelling and screaming and finding every tv outlet to say that he is a racist and should be fired. They got a few people behind them, and corporate america buckled and gave in. A small minority of people thought he should be fired, but they yelled louder than the major majority of people who thought it was a reprehensible remark, but not for the man to lose his livelihood.

Highly suggest that products from the advertisers that pulled out of the Imus show be boycotted, along with MSNBC and WFAN in NY. Add to that anyone thinking of voting for Obama think twice. Its obvious these groups don't think free speech, even if its offensive is ok. The KKK can say worse things and do, but we get Don Imus fired. Whats going on in this country?

For the networks it was money. But the money loss was due to the fact that a large fraction of the American public were outraged by his behavior. It was not just an insult to blacks but to women. The Imus show depended in part on high profile guest politicians and news personalities who would be unlikely to appear on his show in the near future and so the shows value to advertisers would be be less. If advertisers stayed with him their public image would suffer among whites as well as blacks so they would loses more customers that they would gain.
The constitution guarantees that the government will not limit freedom of speech, not that CBS will provide a platform for your speech even if they lose money doing it.

It was the loss of the Black spending dollar... the moral issues had NOTHING to do with Imus being fired.

The black spending dollar!!! Blacks have mad spending power, like any other race. It's just not channeled in a way to make more capital for races.
