He was a studier of just about everything ...he worked with printing, and then also invented the bi-focal glasses. He proved lightening was electricity and also he was a person who studied weather and predicted it in his Poor Richard's Almanac. He studied people as well and came up with a whole series of aphorisms, like 'visitors and fish smell after three days'; ' make friends with your neighbor but don't pull down your hedge'. He was also a writer, a politician, an astronomer and loved to be around the ladies.

He invented a stove, still being manufactured, to give more warmth than open fireplaces; the lightning rod and bifocal eyeglasses also were his ideas. Grasping the fact that by united effort a community may have amenities which only the wealthy few can get for themselves, he helped establish institutions people now take for granted: a fire company, a library, an insurance company, an academy, and a hospital. In some cases these foundations were the first of their kind in North America.

Franklin was a genius. He was an author, political theorist, politician, printer, scientist, inventor, civic activist and diploma. He excelled at everything including physics and language of which he spoke five. Not much is mentioned about formal training. Ben just had an extremely high I.Q.

In addition to all the good, sanitized things you hear about, Franklin was quite a 'rounder', He was a real ladies man and he loved to 'party hearty'. When he lived in Paris he was a member of the notorious "Hell Fire Club" which was well known for the nights of drinking and debauchery...
On more than one occasion, Franklin was an embarrassment to the fledgling American Government.
At the time of his death, he was known to have at least 3 illigitimate children.
