Hitler was the main reason.
Stalin didn't have a strategy - he got lucky.
Hitler ignored the advice of his generals (as usual) and diverted a large proportion of his forces away from Moscow and down to the oil rich Ukraine. Had he not done this, the Germans would have (probably) taken Moscow before the Winter set in and destroyed Russias will to fight on.
Then the worst Russian winter for a very long time set in and the Germans fate was sealed.

There are many reasons why the Germans were defeated and Stalin was only part of the reason. Once the United States entered the war Germany's loss was assured due to the fact no one at the time could match the US industrial juggernaught. US industry was able to continue supplying both Russian and European Allies with much needed amunition, tanks, planes and weapons. With Stalins committement to victory at any cost and the US supplies Russia was able to out last the German offensive and launch a counter attack. Without these supplies Russia would have lacked the supplies to field an army against the Germans. Furthermore the route of Africa and the loss of Italy to the allies forced the Germans to shore up and prepare a defend Western Eurpope from Allied invasion. Germany essentially wrote off Eastern Europe and withdrew to defensive posture on the eastern front knowing it would take the Russians time to organize and mount a counter attack that would cost Russians supplies they did not have at the time. Hitler himself proved a disasterous leader in the end. He ignored Generals advise regarding offensive and defensive matters and created an atmosphere where anyone with an unpopular idea had better keep it to themselves or suffer the consequences. This lead to Germany not activating it's full Armored divisions during the invasion of Normandy which historians agree would have been disasterous for the allies. Furthermore Hitlers purging of the military by his SS soldiers resulted in a lack of competent and expierneced officers to lead.
The German Panzer crews used to have a saying " It takes 12 shermans (tank) to kill 1 Panzer (tank); but there is always a 13th".

The Allies defeated the Nazis. The Soviet Union contributed the the allies cause by helping the whole group defeat the Germans. The Russian winters played a part in the demise of the Germans. The Russians knew they were ill equipped and not ready to fight the German army. The plan was to fall back and use the:
*Scortch Earth Policy, burn every thing of importance to the Germans
*have factories pack up equipment and move back behind the Russian lines so that way they would not fall into German hands.
*Most important part of the plan....winter is coming soon and the Germans were ill prepared for they nasty harsh winter. The Russians were they have lived through it for a great many generations

There are 3 reasons the Germans were defeated in the Soviet Union.
1) unprepared for the harsh winter conditions. Weapons froze, supply lines failed.
2) the determination of the Russian people - old women dug tank traps by hand in the cold.
3) The Soviets had it over the Germans in sheer undefeatable numbers.

The Germans lost because of the cold plain and simple. The German army could not cope with the Russian winter. Stalin was actually a very poor general and Hitler's generals in Russia were reasonably competant.

events in history do not happen soley for one reason.
The russian had a vast army, which while it was under resouced there is strength in numbers. The Russian winters are also very harsed. The germans believed that the Russian front would fall quickly, however this didn't happen and once winter set in the germans where under prepared, they still had their summer uniforms on.
These conditions, but also fighting in other corners of the world put a vast strain on the flow of resouces, so many of the germans died from the cold, hunger general weakness - just too tired to carry on

Stalin was one of the reasons Germany was defeated in World War 2. Germany was fighting on 3 fronts, the western front in France, on a southern front in Italy and the Russian front and were stretched awfully thin plus they understimated the will and the staying power of the Russian military and once the Allies controlled the skies and were able to bomb Germany on a continous basis with the Americans doing daylight and the British nighttime missions, Germany was unable to maintain production of needed war material to supply the troops on the front. So it was a combination of all of these that lead to Germany's downfall.

No! The main reason the Germans lost in Russia was the same reason Napoleon lost in Russia ... winter!!! Stalin had a strategy that was just to let the Germans come in farther and farther, deeper and deeper into Russia, until winter finally caught them and that would be the end of the Germans. It did work.
