I've talked to women who say they prefer male gyns like some of the posters here but I found that for me I prefer female gyns and yes I feel that Gynecology should only be practiced by women. Some drs in the profession feel the same way.
I have been to male gyns before and have gotten the attitude from them that some women say they get from female gynecologists.
I have found that because of the complexities of my overall health situation especially in the gynecologic aspect that I get better results from female drs.

I don't think it really matters what gender your OB/GYN is as long as they are competent. If there are those who chose that field because they like to look at a women's "nick nacks" as you put it, I'm sure the fascination has worn off quite quickly. Most doctors are quite professional about the examination.

I've actually put alot of thought into this same question. My opinion is I'm sure most guys who start out wanting to get into this field are like 'dude i get to look at women all day it'll be sweet' but over time they mature. Having to see problems and gross things all day.
In my experience when I first started going I wanted a women doctor. No way was I going to have a guy because he doesnt have the same parts and it would be just uncomfortable, but I had to go see a guy one time and he was unbelievably gentle with me. Now every time I get a women nothing compares their SO ruff. I think its because women doctors think 'oh this wont hurt me so it wont hurt her' So I'm scheduling nothing but guy doctors from now on lol.

I have had Male and Female gynos. And I actually prefer male because woman doctors think they know it all ( in my experience) when it comes to a womens body since they have the same parts as us. But male doctors listen and sympathize with you plus they go above and beyond to help you ...( again just my opinion)

There's no way I would ever have a male doctor for that! I would always have a female because they have what I have, it's just a job to them but I feel very uncomfortable with a male because I feel they look at it in a different way, they're pigs. I feel that women doctors look at it as anatomy of body and male doctors look at it as breasts and vaginas.

It doesn't really bother me to have a man check on me. I'm pretty comfortable with my body and the exam is only for like two seconds, so it's no big deal

I had a female dr. and did not like her at all. I have had a male gynecologist for a long time and I am very comfortable with him. Actually I think it is because I am used to males being around that part of my body.
