Brands vary from part to part, but as a starter, u should go to newegg.com (as every Real Tech person recommends), they have all u need PLUS the customer reviews, take ur time to review them and u will never go wrong. Let me give u some advices on parts:

CPU - big arguments over Amd vs. Intel but After the intel price cut on April 23rd, Core 2 Duo should be way to go.

Hard Drive - Seagate : heavy duty, 5yr warranty, I have 10 Seagate HDs all doing heavy DLs (bittorrent) and none of them ever failed on me.

Mobo(motherboard) : Asus, Intel, Gigabyte (quality varies even if same brand, do research on them be4 buying)

RAM: Kingston, Cosair, 1GB is at least, 2GB gives u great multi-task performance

Case: Lots of good ones, Antec is not bad. A Heavy, solid Steel one will give u better noise elimination, a roomier case lower the temp

Video Cards - Nvidia generally good for games, ATI is cheaper. ATI's X1600 series seems to be cheap and plays most of the games in the market now.

One other thing good about newegg is that u dont need to be worried about buying an incompatible part, coz u can always return them free of charge(Except return shipping), sometime they charge 10% restocking if package is opened but a 5 min phone call to CSR will take care of it.

Hello,

I have built three systems with parts from: www.tigerdirect.com.

I like this company because they have good prices, customer reviews on most items, and I have been pleased with the customer services.

They offer mail-in rebates on many items, which really gets the price down. It's a pain to print out the rebate offers and keep track of the proofs of purchase etc, but you can get a lot of mony back. The last system included just under $600 worth of parts and I got almost $200 back in rebates. It does take 6 to 8 weeks at least to get your rebate check back.

Have a pleasant day.

No, not really.

I have been a shopper at http://www.newegg.com for about 7 years now. Their customer service, shipping and pricing are all top-notch.
