I'm NOT happy. I'm sick of people like Jackson and Sharpton acting as though they care about the black community when all they care about are themselves.
Mr. Imus was the ONLY program I watched and/or listened to on MSNBC. I'm really through with them now.

I think Sharpton's comment following the meeting demonstrates the double standard we see in today's society. He said "It's not about taking Imus down, it's about lifting decency up." How can he have the gall to say that? Did he have the decency, as Imus did, to apologize when he was wrong? For example, has he apologized to the Duke lacrosse players? Has he apologized to Pagones (from the Tawana Brawley case in the late 80s)? Has Sharpton ever apologized for his comment about white cracker interlopers?
No - he doesn't need to apologize - since he's not a whitey. It's okay for him to do anything he wants since possibly one of his relatives from 150 years ago was a slave.
And where is the decency in rap and hip hop? That genre of music espouses much more degrading language than Imus'. When will he condemn those songs and call for them to be taken off of the radio? No - because most are not sung by whiteys. And it's okay because there is a chance that 150 years ago one of his relatives was a slave.
And I guess I shouldn't be commenting because I'm a whitey . Which I just learned I was. Saw it on a black blog (betcha I'd get in a lot of trouble for starting a whitey blog).

I agree with Matt. Imus was history before the meeting took place. At the same time CBS has a history of folding under the slightest pressure. They fired Jimmy the Greek in a New York minute for comments that might have been ignorant, but weren't racist. They also canceled a movie about Reagan because of pressure from the right.

Other than the fact that C BS wants to take a little heat off another scandal of their own..PLAGIARISM at CBS ..they are playing into the bias liberal agenda , feeding into white racism and promoting hatred ..and hypocrisy . CBS fired a producer for plagiarizing a Wall St. Journal article of Jeffrey Zaslow's .. but it helps to fire Imus too , because then maybe their record of making up the news again ( can you say 2004 Presidential Election ) can be covered up with the Imus story .

I think Imus' rating were down. He'd had lost some advertisers because of the flack from the statement he made. It was a business decision made long before the meeting.

I think he will remain off the air for about 3 months, then be back, and be successful. This is a dog & pony show, Imus is too successful to stay off the air for a prolonged period of time. Look at Opus & Anthony.

I think it is ridiculous. Imus is known for his style of "humor." Those that don't like it can change the channel and get the stickout of their "@**!!
I'm bloody tired of the media trotting out Sharpton and Jackson everytime something they perceive as threating hits the media.
