You dont necessarily have to be a lawyer but it does help to make the transition because of the close relationship between legislation and practical law. Legally all you have to do is get a 10,000 signatures on a petition from your local board of elections to gain ballot access and youre running. In real life it does help to have the connections. Experience working on committees, structure of governance, civics, foriegn policy, history, philosophy all help with the role of state representative. Another good thing is leadership experience, which is why you see a lot of people transition from military careers to politics.

I could no longer run on account that the media can twist each and every factor that you simply do or say. I additionally could no longer run on account that I have honor in what I do or say. Most folks that maintain public workplace I feel they're crooks and liars.

On a federal level, you must be 25 to be in Congress.

You don't necessarily have to be a lawyer, but it helps.

To appear on the ballot, you need to gather enough signatures on a petition and file it with the election commission.

A law degree would help, but it's not always necessary,

you could have any degree or no degree at all,

you have to have great communication and public speaking skills, have a lot of connections and a whole lotta people behind you and money helps too.

You have to have tons of money. If not, you probably don't stand a chance. Sorry, but that's the way it is in America. It's a plutocracy disguised as a "democracy".

Sell your integrity to special interests for campaign donations, primarily.

The biggest hurdle to getting elected is convincing donors that your integrity is worth buying - that you're 'electable' and will stay bought.
