I had that same question the other day and the answer I got was hanged. If you say that person was hanged then yes or if you say that person hung out there depends which way you use it.

The past tense of hang (to hang a person) is hanged, but you can't just say the person hanged. You have to say they were hanged. The hanging was done to them (it's passive voice).
The past tense of hang (like clothes on a hanger) is hung.

When you're talking about an execution, the correct verb is "hanged," as in, "Saddam Hussein was hanged in December 2006." If you're using it any other way, it's "hung," as in "I hung out with my friends today," or "I hung some clothes out to dry." It's weird, but that's how it is.
