I gained 56 lbs during pregnancy. In the first 3 weeks after delivery I lost 30 lbs of it and since it has been slow. It is now 7 months later and I have about 12 more to loose, but I also do not exercise at all other then tugging a 21 lb boy around everywhere.

I am the queen of losing weight after delivery. After-all, I just delivered my fifth child. Yes your body, especially after having twins, will never be the same. Even if you lose every ounce of weight, the weight has shifted (downward usually), and the skin where it was stretched out is looser. Losing weight does not make the loose skin shrink back/contract. I do know what you mean by gaining a lot of weight. I had a tremendous amount of water weight gain with my third son. I gained 78 lbs in 39 weeks. 60 of those pounds were gained in the last 2.5 months alone. On average, I gained 1.5 lbs a day. The skin around my ankles actually started cracking from the pressure from the water. I lost 65 lbs the first two weeks alone which goes to emphasized that it was mostly water. My son was 11 lbs 4 ozs at 39 weeks, so although I didn't have twins, I dare say my stomach was the size of someone who did have twins. Sometimes the body's chemistry shifts after delivery. That and getting older doesn't help either. The diet that worked before for you, may not work now. Keep a food diary of every bite you take. Make sure you read the labels, so you can accurately gauge the serving size. I suggest a very low carb diet. Very high in protein, and good fats. Make any carbs you eat, complex carbs. Shun all pasta, rice, and white bread. Maybe two slices of whole wheat bread a day, that's it. The rest of the carbs should come from things like veggies, beans, etc. Start a walking program 5-6 days a week. Don't forget to strength train. Muscle burns more calories at rest. With hard work, you will get a figure back. It may not be the figure you are used to, but a figure you can be proud of none the less. I would have the doctor check to make sure your thyroid is ok, etc. If everything checks out ok, then it is purely willpower you will have to rely on. If you are taking birth control pills, they CAN make you gain weight. Barrier methods won't. I would stick around 1200 calories max AND add at least 1 hr a day of cardio or strength training. Before you take a bite of a snack remember this saying: Nothing tastes as good, as being thin feels. My husband made mean comments to me when I was a size 10. I told him to pick a size. Basically to put his money where his mouth is. He picked a size 4. I did one better and went from a size 10 to a 2 in just under 8 weeks. I had a lot of muscle from the weight lifting I did. Of course I might not have done it in the most healthy fashion, but it is possible. The first 3-5 days are the worst. After that, the hunger pains tend to go away. Just be realistic. Your stomach will NEVER look the same.

It can be! Just eat healthy and don't overeat while pregnant. I gained 32 to 36 lbs per pregnancy, 3 of them. I had more time after 1st and 2nd and I lost all but 5 lbs. I probably would lose the rest, but #3 came along. I lost some, but it is harder with 3 to find time! I feel like I am putting myself before my family when I take time to exercise. I eat mostly sensible, but exercise is also a big key! I love walking and windsor pilates! You shape up and lose weight at the same time. It is great! Good luck!

I'm having a hard time with it, but I didn't eat the best during my pregnancy either. It all depends upon how you're eating while pregnant & how committed you are after you're cleared to diet/exercise after the baby's born. I think it has to do with your genetic makeup too.

Good luck! And don't worry. I found that after my baby was born no one really looked at me anymore. :) I'm still trying to lose those last 10 lbs, though!

Im still working on it. My son is 12 weeks old and I've lost 35 lbs but I gained 60 so I have a ways to go. I had a c-section so now im trying to get rid of all this excess skin. A woman that had her baby the same day as mine looked normal the day she left the hospital! Its crazy!

My friend and I delivered within 1 week of each other. She breastfed and I didn't and we both got back to our pre-pregnancy weight in about 9 months with no exercise beyond that of packing a baby around. lol!

It won't be if you exercised during pregnancy and continue to exercise. I was able to get back into shape within a week after the birth of my third child.

I delivered 4/3 and only have 8 pounds left to lose. A lot of it is extra skin. I'm not sure how to get rid if it.

I'm breastfeeding, of course!

My sister-in-law breast fed and she got into shape a lot quicker than I did. Almost 4 years later and I still have the baby fat!
