Head down to your local computer store and ask to purchase a PCI Wireless Network Card or if you prefer, you could ask for a USB Wireless Network device (only do this if you have a spare USB port). I would only suggest that if your PC sits close enough to the router that you consider using a wired connection. The cost of a wired network card is still cheaper than a wireless card.

I see lots of good answers here that all seem to forget one thing: You say your computer is "older" -- how old? And what operating system runs on it? It's easier to do wireless networking with Windows XP than it is with Windows 98.
So when you follow the advice of just about anyone else here, take those two pieces of information with you and be sure whatever you buy will work with your setup.

If your older pc is near your router then install a PCI ethernet card and connect direct to router using ethernet cable for best speed and connection http://bromleyhall.com/bhnet/images/hand.jpg ,
or install a pci wireless card and antenna http://flourishcomputer.com/products/desktop/desktop_right/network_accessories/iee802._11b_g_pci.jpg
or if you arent comfortable opening the harddrive case at all then if you have a spare USB port you can buy a USB wireless adapter http://www.icct.ca/images/prod_linksys/WUSB54GS.jpg that will connect easily and very reasonably priced.
All options should work for you.

Steal it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
or buy it, personally less of a problem buying legally. No lengthy stay in Jail.
Before you buy it take down the make and model of your wireless router. This way when you go to buy you will get the latest and greatest of a wireless adpater for your desktop computer. You can get an adapter a computer store or vis mail order from a computer parts supplier. Adapters will cost anywhere from $25.00USD and on up in cost.

Hi,
The best thing to buy is a "USB Wi-Fi LAN Adapter" (about £15) and a usb 3 Meter extension cable, then connect it up and install the software that comes with it and you have a connection, "TIP" it's best to mount the Adapter up high for best signal. This will help you.

I got mine from Cingular and it wasn't that expensive. Then I installed it and I had wireless internet! Just go talk to a computer center and ask them any questions you have.
