The proton-volt is a measure of kinetic energy, as the electron-volt is, and they are equivalent. Since the proton is 1840 times as massive, it moves much slower to have the same kinetic energy.

Nope. The proton has the same charge as the electron. I don't think the opposite polarity is going to matter, ie--you wouldn't want to define a proton volt as negative work.

Therefore, there really isn't much point in defining a proton volt, which is why just now is the first time I ever heard the term.

No they both have the same magnitude of charge.

Same charge, same number of eV (or pV), just opposite sign.
