Personally I am thinking they will trade out of the 2nd pick. If anyone looks back at Millens draft history (not the ....he sucks at it part, we all know that) but the Lions have not drafted anyone they have openly talked about. That means Joe Thomas is not an option they are looking at, they are paying top 5 money to Backus and they took Foster in the Bly trade (another former 1st rounder still making 1st round money). The Lions draft basically will boil down to who the Raiders take. If they go with Russell my money is on TB trading up to the Lions spot to grab Johnson and the Lions will use the 4th pick to grab Gaines Adams. Remember Marinelli is a defensive coach and he loves smaller fast defensive ends and there is no doubt the Lions have a sorry defense and most of the guys they currently have arent suited for the defensive system Marinelli prefers. If the Raiders select Johnson the Vikings and Dolphins become more likely trading partners (the Dolphins have several extra picks, could be a factor) so they can pick whichever QB suites their needs and then the Lions would pick either Amobi Okoye (that is who i am hoping for) or Patrick Willis (LB...Miami). Keep in mind the linebacking is horrendous in Detroit, Ernie Sims played exceptional but the rest of the LB corps are not good. They started Paris Lenon (yes the same guy that the GB Packers released because he wasnt good enough to even be a special teamer...and GB isnt exactly loaded at LB either). They have picked up 3 O-linemen this offseason so I cant see them spending more there with the defensive problems and a defense oriented coach wanting to build the team his way. Marinelli will get his wish and they go D in the 1st round and pick Trent Edwards (QB...Stanford) with their 2nd round pick. Edwards is big with a great arm and they figure he comes cheaper than Quinn so they wait until round 2 to address the QB spot.

Raiders+ al davis= Jamarcus Russell Lions+ Matt Millen= Brady Quinn Raiders are ideal to take Russell for his vast arm to throw to Moss if he's there. If not they choose a huge good QB which could make each and all of the throws. Lions could take some OT's in this draft. yet which could wait 'till at last later rounds because of the fact there are assorted sturdy OT's later rounds. they might desire to have a franchise QB to groom and to hold in followers. PLus no QB they have can throw the long ball to Williams. yet now that Kevin jones is long gone for a million/2 the year they might draft A. Peterson at RB instaed. think of approximately it and enable me be attentive to.

I think they are hoping for a trade down to gain some extra picks. If nothing is worked out then they'll take Joe Thomas (OT). Kitna surprised last year and they won't take a QB in the first with so many other needs. Many mock drafts show them taking Quinn though.

The Lions will probably draft Joe Thomas...
Oh and to the guy that said Troy Smith, you obviously know absolutely nothing about football and/or talent. Troy Smith is going to be a late round pick or possibly not drafted at all. His only hope might be as a free agent. He will never play quarterback again.

You right it won't be Quinn and taking another wideout isn't a good idea so they'll either trade or draft Joe Thomas the tackle from Wisconsin, or maybe even Gaines Adams the defensive end from Clemsom

The Lions could package McCown and the #2 pick and trade up to grab Russell. Wouldn't that be nice? Oakland, with the #2 pick, would still be able to grab Calvin Johnson.
Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Millen will trade the pick and get some old free agents to keep the Lions where they are at and will remain. In the cellar.

I think they should trade down to get more picks. They need a qb and I think the kid from Stanford would be a good pick that they could get later in the draft.
