Go to the hardware store and get a hole patch. It is a big patch that has adhesive on back. Stick it over the hole and then mud over it, Mud meaning joint compound or joint putty, sand and repeat till it matches. If the wall is textured you might have to match texture with a brush or roller or buy a can of spray texture, then paint.

There is two easy fixes to this problem. Cut the hole out square. Cut a piece of drywall 2 inches bigger on all four sides. Flip the drywall over and cut the size of the hole. don't cut all the way through. Take off the outer edge of your cut, leaving the paper. Place the drywall in the hole and the paper you left on acts as your tape. Mudd it a couple of times and paint. This is called a "blowout patch".
You can also( depending on the size of your hole) buy special drywall tape. It's usually yellow or blue and looks like a screen. It sticks to the drywall. Just put it over your hole, giving yourself about 2 inches all the way around, and mudd and paint.
Those are the cheap, easy and quik ways to do it. Other wise yopu have to cut from stud to stud and screw a new section of drywall in. And you still have to mudd and paint.

Cut out the hole to a square or rectangular shape. Take a piece of 1x2 board that is about 4 inches longer than the hole. Put a screw into the center of the board part way (to use as a handle). Slip the board into the hole and using a screw on each side, secure the wood across the hole. Remove the screw you used for a handle. Then cut a piece of drywall to fit the hole and screw it to the board. Tape and apply joint compound. Sand and then primer before painting.

How to fix a hole in the wall
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got an unsightly hole in the wall? No problem - just follow this easy fix-it guide.
Do you have an unsightly looking hole in the middle of your wall? Want to do something about it – without making it worse? Then follow these simple wall hole fixing steps:
(1) Mark out a rectangle on the wall which has the hole at it’s center.
(2) Use a key hole saw to carefully cut out the rectangle.
(3) Using the piece you have cut out as a template, mark out a duplicate rectangle on a piece of plaster-board.
(4) Mark an area about two inches wide all around on the piece of patching board Now cut this patching piece out.
(5) Remove the paper from one side of the two inch overlap piece of patching board. Then take away the plaster from this two edge overlap.
(6) Apply patching plaster to this two inch lip area. Now place the patch in the hole in the wall. Firmly press the plastered edging into the wall and keep pressure on it as it sets.
(7) You are now ready to sand over the edges to ensure that it is flush and then paint over the affected area.
Here is an alternate method to fixing a hole in the wall that you may wish to use:
(1) Cut out a piece of screening slightly larger than the hole.
(2) Fix a couple of wire ties to the screening and put it through the hole so it is positioned behind it.
(3) Affix the screening by way of the ties to a stick which is placed vertically across the outer side of the hole and taped to the wall above and below the hole.
(4) Plaster over the hole with patching plaster. Leave a depth of about one eighth of an inch to allow for your finish coat. Once this coat is dry, remove the stick and clip the wire as close to the surface as possible.
(5) Carefully apply the finish coat, making sure it is flush with the wall.
(6) After the plaster has dried you are now ready to sand and paint over the surface.
Also you can go to the Home Depot, and ask for advice there.
Good Luck!

You'll need to cut around the hole. Get a small piece of drywall patch and put it in the hole. Gte the drywall tape and put it around the edges. Use compound ontop of the tape and smooth it out. Let it dry. Sand, paint and you are as good as new!
Good Luck!
