I guess you wouldn't be offended by being called a "white-trash inbred idiot" being that this is free-speech and all?

The comments made by Imus were not racist, but Insensitve and not neccesarily Rascist per se.

Imus wasen't thinking about His position as a National radio announcer nor probably what he said ; had he made the comments as a private citizen on a street corner it would mean nothing; I'm sure he felt it was funny, but who knows. As it was, he used the airwaves (that by law, belong to the people) as his platform to insult the Rutgers basketball team; unless of course you feel calling black athelets "nappy headed hoes" is ok for radio then your off my page and who cajn argue that?

The question is would Anglos feel it ok if A black Radio host called a white hockey-team "those redneck hillbillies?"

I thought not. As an Anglo I'd complaint in a heartbeat.

Free speech is not protected in all cases; simply put, you cannot run into a crowded theatre and yell "fire". Protected free speech is evaluated case by case upon complaint; the theatre would certainly empty fast and some would be injured, maybe killed; is this the free speech we as Americans want?

I thought not.

Imus was wrong, nice guy, made a mistake, we need not fight a battle each time someone screws up.

It is only racist if you are white. If this had been said by any other race/color it would not have been so "media" worthy. Who associated "nappy headed" with blacks anyway? I am guessing some news reporter. Do black people associate "nappy headed" with their culture? We all know that ho's come in various shapes, colors, and sizes. What is the big deal? Those girls needed to blow that guy off like the waste of attention he has set himself out to be.

It is worthwhile to note that his "radiothon" has done excellent this year raising money for the disabled. I wonder if this was just a play to draw attention to his cause? Hmmmm

I'd say racist.
Free speech is great and a necessary right. However Why must it be used to belittle anyone ? Who wants to be linked with a scandal?? Companies want to sell products not answer millions of hate letters. Besides I'm sure there are more ppl with my opinion live and let live- who would boycott anything Imus related than there are the "freedom of speechers" who would boycott.

It may well be free speech but it is entirely racist and sexist.

Free speech carries with it the responsibility (especially if on the radio) to restrain yourself from inciting riots.

To say what Imus did is no more tolerable that yelling "Fire" in a crowded theater.

People want all the rights but none of the responsibilities.

I'm in complete agreement with you. The word "ho" was created by trashy blacks who continue to use it with no criticism. Ditto with the so called N word. And the destructive behavior that goes along with this black culture that glorifies demeaning women, no responsibility for fathers, drugs, alcohol, and always whining for more benefits. The real racism here is that one group is allowed to be exempted from the standards of behavior that we expect from others. And this only perpetuates the cycle of poverty and violence that typifies the majority of this group.

It also results in a growing backlash among the rest of the country who are tired of this continual double standard. We see blacks being their own worse enemy while the media eggs them on while also depicting other groups as evil or mean spirited or racist. You certainly rarely see anything dealing with the incredible successes that Asian Americans have had in education and business in only one generation. There is little if anything as to how it is Hispanic immigrants, many of them illegals, who are rebuilding New Orleans while the city's former inhabitants continue a life of substance abuse and crime. No one does a segment on the vast changes that Indian immigrants have caused with their rapid success not only in education and high tech but also in farming.

Your right to free speech is valid only to the point where you don't hurt others.
I mean, really. Logical people with common sense would know how offensive this statement is and what an uproar this was going to cause.
It was racist and sexist and should be dealt with as so. As should rappers who are sexist and racist in their lyrics, etc.
What has happened to personal responsibility?
You can say anything you like, certainly. But be prepared to deal with the repercussions of your action.
Free Speech does not equal Slander.

Well saying it outloud and not directed to anyone doesn't really make it racist. People took it that way because it was directed to a female basketball team. Let's not forget that they were women who were called hoes by a guy who knew nothing about them and they had never done anything to him.

Why don't you take your free speech to Compton in Cali and yell out " I hate ni gg ers" Sure, you have a right to free speech, but you might get a free beat down. We have to be careful how ou words might impact others.

this entire thing is a double edged sword, first off it was wrong for him to say what he did! but it is like if we are going to get mad at him for saying this to a national audience, then we should get mad at everyone who says this.
there are people all the time who says this, but look at people who are on talk shows that say this all the time. an example would be when a girl is cheating with your man or something, they get called this (even if she isn't black) and still gets called a lot more. what do we see it as when this white guy says it? racist. but when the girlfriend says it, it is entertainment for people!
you know the same person who heard this probably watches the same talk shows & is entertained by it, but when heard by Imus, be it racist or not, they were offended.

anyway you look at it it was wrong, but don't just get mad at him

Ok man, there is a difference in a mistake, and being blatently wrong. Imus's quote was a bad poorly thought through joke, thats all. I've heard plenty of my AA friends make white jokes at the wrong time too. It happens. Everyone does it at some point, it's a poor choice.

racism: A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
idiotic:showing complete lack of thought or common sense. I don't know if that is racism when you hear it all on the videos and making money on it. If you hear the rappers they would totally agree with you. Sad very Sad.
