I think you have asked a very difficult question as both are one of the greatest players of their times. However, I believe Sir Garfield Sobers has an edge over Sir Vivian Richards as he played the cricket in a era when it was difficult to bat and there was not much to protect your self against some fearsome fast bowling. Then his ability to bat at any number gives him the required marks to surpass Richards.

1. Gary Sobers takes the honours in this regard. A magical batsman against some tough bowlers in that time, could bowl medium pace or spin and a wonderful fielder.
He was also one of the best captains they had and he was the one who hit 6 sixes off an over before it was done rcently in the world cup.
2. Viv Richards was a wonderful bastman who could bowl a bit and a great fielder, also a good captain.
3. Clive Lloyd was brilliant as well but did not have the flair and finesse of Sobers.

"Greatest West Indian Cricketer" without a doubt is Sir Garfield Sobers. Made the WI team as a bowler, batted every position from 1-11. Bat, bowl and field, a COMPLETE cricketer in every sense of the word. Oh, and did I mentioned he was the former world record holder for most runs in an inning.

I consider Sir Garfield Sobers as the greatest West Indies Cricket player of all times as he was a great allrounder in true spirit.

Gary Sobers without a doubt. Viv Richards would be a very close second.
