If you mean how many SQUARE inches there are in a square foot, well notice that if you have a square that's 1 foot by 1 foot, its area is a square foot. If you draw horizontal and vertical lines at every whole-inch mark along the edge, this divides it up into 12 by 12 inches, or 144 little squares that each one square inch. So there are 144 square inches in a square foot.
