both of my experiences with my 2 children, it was alot of water and you would defently know. And when it happends it is a great releaf of pressure but shortly after your contractions will get alot harder and closer together.. Good Luck

Not necessarily. Some people feel a gush of water and other feel a steady dribble. It really is different for everyone. Most people will be feeling contractions before their water breaks. If you are having trouble with incontinence (peeing when you sneeze etc) and it gets worse it could be that your water has broken. So I would get it checked out. When my water broke, I stood up and there was a big gush, but my sister in law wasn't sure until the middle of the night when she thought that she'd wet the bed. She had some leakage earlier in the day.

From what I understand, everyone is different. Some people just leak a little at a time, others gush. When my water broke it was unmistakable because is just gushed and gushed and gushed. I think I lost all amniotic fluid in about fifteen minutes. Unfortunately, I was asleep at the time it started so there was a big mess to clean up. Fortunately, I have a great husband who took care of that the next day after the baby was born.

First, your water may not break on its own. Contrary to what movies and tv would have you believe, its more common for it to be broken in hospital than to have it break on its own. You may feel a gush, or it may be a trickle. In the case of trickle, a lot of women do not realise that its their bag of waters. Once my water broke the contractions started hitting pretty hard and heavy. If it breaks at home, you should try to look and see if the water is clear. If its dark or greenish, that indicates baby has already had its first bowel movement and muconium aspiration becomes a concern. Best of luck!

I have 4 kids. My water broke spontaneously at home for 3 of them. With all three I knew immediately, even though with one her head corked it so much that nothing came out unless I was laying down AND contracting at the same time.
This is what it feels like to me: Fill your sink with water. Take a glass and fill it with the water in the sink, then turn it upside down with the mouth still under water. Slowly pull the cup up until the mouth is about the water and the water breaks free.
Kind of like being uncorked. I don't know if it's always this way, but all three kicked me & then my water broke.

Trust me you will know! There is no way you wont know you in labor. And when your water breaks it will be a big gush of water and it wont feel like discharge. You will be able to tell. Dont worry so much about it.... The best advice I can think of to give you is rest up. Get as much rest as possible and enjoy it.....because when the baby is born you will not be sleeping very much! Take care!

depends on how low the baby is in the birth canal when your membranes rupture. if the baby's head is right up against your cervix, then it might act as a "cork" preventing most of the water from leaking out until the head is birthed.
regardless, it will most likely be A LOT OF FLUID gushing out more than likely and you won't be able to control it, like you can with urine. It also smells different than urine, I'm told.
It WON'T be moist or like a discharge. Its amniotic fluid.

It feels like water. Honestly, there are a lot of people that go into labor and their water doesn't break until you are already in the hospital. feeling Moist is normal. There is a plug that comes out that feels like discharge, but your water breaking feels like your bladder emptying itself in a rushing feeling. If you are not sure, go to the hospital and double check. Better safe than sorry

Yes, yes, yes. It could feel like any of this or your water may not break on its own. With my second daughter (3rd preg.) my water didn't break until she crowned. With the other two preg. water broke at the start of labor. It felt like a release of pressure and about a saucer amount of water ran down my leg. No big deal since I was in my nightgown. Your situation will be as unique as your pregnancy, so don't worry and roll with the punches.
Good luck.

Unless it is just leaking, you will know. It will be a large gush of water, right before mine broke with my first i had this really bad 'had to pee' feeling so i went to get up to go to the bathroom and it just kept coming out (more than when you pee) and i couldn't stop it at all. but remember only 10-15% of women's water actually breaks on its own, but once it does you need to deliver within 24 hours b/c of chance of infection.

like you "pissed yourself" is this how your baby will grow up talking as well. Now to answer your question, it varies with women, some women the water breaks but the baby is in the way so it trickles out, but it is never ending, it keeps on coming so after a few minutes you would know it is not your bladder leaking, the one time mine broke it gushed out and continued then in a steady stream for about 20 minutes. Most women do not have their waters break, they have to be broken by the doctor. Out of my first three, only my first broke. There is a precentage, it is somewhere around 30%, so only 3 out of 10 women have them break naturally. I might be off on the stats, but that is pretty close.
