In my U.S. History 2 class we are covering the period of 1930-WW2, we also just finished WW1. I am AMAZED at the parallels seen from then and what is occurring now. We as Americans have not yet learned the lessons of history. We have proof that Iran is backing the insurgents by giving them weapons. We've found that Iran is their supplier. Who backs Iran? Russia, China, North Korea.
How did North Korea get their nuclear weapons? They surely didn't make them, they were given the technology to copy from their allies. Russia and China told North Korea to settle down true, but why? So that they could continue to their "under the table" support and not arouse suspicion. These are called secret alliances, it happened in both world wars, it is happening NOW, it is NOT a conspiracy theory it is HISTORICAL FACT. I am 24, I will be fighting in the WW3, probably by 2010. Why can't anyone else see this, it happened then and it's happening NOW before our eyes! Put down your Ipods and WAKE UP!!!

I would encourage anyone who doubts this to just look at what led to the major wars. WW2 was a continuation of WW1, Russia still feels resentment over the cold war...that wasn't very long ago folks, do you really think they are all better. Puten is a former KGB AGENT! Don't we see what is happening?
Iran HAS NUCLEAR WEAPONS! No we can't prove it...but they have nuclear power, it's hard to get to that point, but to then take it to the next level of nuclear weapons is not. Especially when you have two allies who ALREADY have nuke. North Korea HAS nukes and HAS tested them!
The lines are drawn folks! LOOK AT HISTORY...I can't say it enough...IT happed before and it is happening again RIGHT NOW!
Back then the U.S. didn't see it coming and we don't see it coming now. Do you think a nuclear age war will be prettier than the brutal WW1 were millions died? Wars only get WORSE, and this one promises to be very very bad! I can only hope that I will live to see 40, living to 80, right.

The question is clearly stated...
WHEN WILL WE REALIZE we are on the brink of another war?
What is keeping people from realizing?
We would rather criticize those who bring this stuff to light than actually pay attention to what is being said.
There is your question...good enough for you? Guess that's my answer...we don't care that we are about to enter a nuclear war. We think we can kick ***, we think it's not really that bad.
Yeah I have a question for you...when will the U.S. realize what is going on?

I never said the U.S. is not to blame...I apologize I didn't point out that WE DID give Sudam his weapons...we do tend to create out own problems...My point...the U.S. citizens abroad are unwilling to be aware of many things THAT FACT being one of them...they assume we are the most righteous nation and we are by far not!
THAT IS THE POINT! You make an excellent point Nicolas...the U.S. is part of the problem in our secret dealings...MY POINT is that NO ONE cares...no one brings those issues to light I applaud you bringing that up! I in no way meant to make it appear that the U.S. is not to blame at all...WE have played our part too!
We are more concerned with who anna's babys daddy is than what is happening now and what caused it to happen. Yes the U.S. is part of that problem, yes the govt. is not a soley righteous one. The citizens of the U.S. do not care and do not know what is going on and what is about to happen. They just yell "Psycho conspiracy theory" and hope it goes away

Arms races are happening just about everywhere at the moment - conventional ones, which are perhaps more frightening than nuclear ones. Nuclear weapons are pretty pointless unless you have well armed troops to secure them properly. Russia has just started one of the largest military spending sprees it has ever had. China has done pretty much the same thing. The US military budget has increased immensely, though that is mostly covered by the Iraq war (or so it is claimed). India has also just tested a new missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
In addition jingoism, distrust between communities and gunboat diplomacy are rife. These were all apparent before the world wars. All it's going to take now are a few more "diplomatic incidents" like the one with Iran and the UK recently, a recession or even rising oil prices to tip the whole thing over the edge.

Geez SOW...
I hear ya bro. While I can see why some folks are screaming PARANOIA...I think if they actually knew anything about history...and if they realized that they are trying already to re-install the draft...maybe...just maybe...they could understand the fears that a man in his young 20's might have. I might not agree 100% with you...I can understand why this might have you a little stirred up...the thought of war...is at the least deathly frightening to any intelligent soul.
I remember thinking the same thing in class the other day...especially talking after class with the proff.
The biggest fear is that true...it's possible that the war wouldn't be to bad because no one would have the balls to blast a nuke...but what if they did?
I mean the U.S. has already used two against Japan, N Korea is ran by a little hot head, if one nation fired, that's all folks!
I would say let's go drinking so we can calm the jets...but that seems to be another of your points...even here folks would rather tell you to shut up and settle than look into it deeper. I mean...you aren't spouting propaganda (well not too much ;) ) and you are right...it was in the newspapers last month that we discovered Iran was giving bombs to the insurgents and what...few days ago that Iran is now a nuclear nation?
That scared me piss less man...

Several reasons why we're not heading for WW3. If there is a WW3, it will end immediately because a handful of countries have nuclear weapons. And since they're not on the same side, they're pointing them at each other. Infantry are useless against nuclear capable countries.
The cold war era Cuban Missile Crisis, pushed the US to DEFCON 2, which is the closest our country has ever gotten to all out nuclear war that would have started WW3 and ended the world. Our century is no longer like the times of WW1 and WW2, where we can fight for terroritories until we've cornered our enemies or they surrender. Sure, this approach still works with the low tech enemies like Iraq who imports there weapons and don't have any nukes. But declaring and fighting a war with a nuclear capable country is no simple matter. Countries like China have already publicly announced that they will not use nukes as a first strike unless the US intervenes with Taiwan.
WW3 is unlikely because a war between two technologically advanced countries (in our time), will likely cause the greatest casualities of civilians and soldiers than ever before in human history and make our world uninhabitable.
Also with countries whose economies are deeply interdependent, like China and US, it'll just be bad judgement to start a war because we'll ruin both of our economies. This is the profound reason why the US has been lenient to many disagreeable actions and policies in China and vice versa. We don't hesitate to attack Iraq because we thought they had WMDs. We've pretty much abandoned that argument for war. On the other hand, we do nothing when we have confirmation of China's successful anti-sattelite missile test. Which can be used to destroy key sattelites that will impact our ability to fight.

Do you remember the outcome of WWII. Russia China N. Korea and Iran do too. If Americans won't look at history the rest of the world still does. There is not a country in the world that would f**k with the USA (as far as starting an all out war). That is a fact.
China NEEDS the US for to maintain its riches.
North Korea has been at war with us for 50 years now and can not even feed its people.
Iran's two neighbors have just been invade, you think they might be afraid they are next?
Russia has its own problems, they are not selling technology for imperialistic reasons, they are doing it for monetary reasons.
Great message to put down you ipods for a minute and look around....I do love that part of your message!

no one doubts secret alliances, you just have realized whats been going on since the beginning of recorded time. not just American and the world wars. read a little more, and as ;you go back, you will see no nation, no people have ever learned the lessons in history, and thats why we all repeat them. there has never been a good war, a just war or justifiable war, all war is bad, and all war is war. It's a break-down in civiliztion on usually several points and places, economics is always involved (the "Love" of money is the "root " of "all evil"). as to your "fighting" in WW3, a slim chance, only 15% of all WWII vets saw combat, only 5% actually fired at the enemy or engaged in combat in anyway. less than 1% of Americans where killed, and under 3% were wounded, whether minor or major war is hell, but nessasary , it is the soldier above all who prays for peace, it would be nice to call a war and no one would show, but lets be realistic, it ain't gonna happen, and people will always find a reason to go to war.

I find your comments regarding the potential upcoming world war 3 to very superifical and lacking evidence. Your main argument is that the events leading up to WWI and WWII are repeating themselves now-a-days.
In fact WWII was the byproduct of WWI which I will elaborate on later. It is a fact that the web of alliagence did contribute to the first world war but it was not the cause. Fervent nationalism, imperialism, colononial expansion and changes in social though processes where the true causes of WWI. The majority of those contributions are not present today. Considering that in the early 1900's land was economic power and therefore to attain power one country/nationalistic group needed land. That is no longer the case as we move to a more intergrated world economy.
Beyond that the causes of world war II were directly attributed to the end of world war I. The victories desire for reperations generated a sense of helplessness in Germany which was taken advantage of by the Nazis and perverted with their unique form of Nationalism.
The bottom line is that countries can now gain power without acquiring land and since there is massive integration of the worlds economy a global war would simple be bad for business.
Please stop fear mongoring. I would suggest really READING history before making a snap judgement.
Finally i am not saying that conflicts will not arise in the future. In fact we are more in danger from isolated bands of individuals who don't have a country and therefore nothing to lose.

I think we will have a civil war on our hands, an example is New Orleans after Katrina. Maybe 10 -15 years from now. it will be a world wide breakdown of our economy, which is way to dependant on perfect circumstances.
I already bought a small farm out in Wisconsin, because once it starts, you don't want to be near a big city. I will at the first sign of collapse. My guess is arround 2016.

Hey ArgleBargle, do you read the news? Iran IS backing them...and Iran is a nuclear nation...READ YOUR PAPER BRO!!!
And linlyons...why do you think it would be way in the future, all the recipes for it are here today.
Why do you think no one can take us? All it takes it one nuke man...just one...seriously...that's pretty naive to say no one can take us, that's an opinion at the MOST...that's never been tried...that statement has never been tested.
I don't think we've won a war that we started...we've won wars someone else started...and then we came in late on...but not any that we've started

I think the situation we face today is far more like World War I. A terrorist set that one off. All we need is another terrorist attack on a major political figure, (that was what triggered WWI -- the assassination of an Austrian Archduke by a Bosnian terrorist) like we had back then, and the whole world could be at war in a matter of months!

Regarding history, you are the typical example of what lead us to world wars... especially the first one
- "Realpolitik"
- sure that conflicts can´t be avoided
- psycho of other countries
- quest for an enemy
- lack of self-questionning (you didn´t even once question who delivered weapons to Saddam for ex. as you mention business on the Iran-China axis)
- view of an alliance web instead of a multipolar world
- conspiracy theories
