my monitor was once bright but it then went dim, i tried to increase the brightness from the monitor but did'nt work.what will i do next?

go into your computer settings page and click reset default settings , click ok and you should be good to go.

And if that doesn't work research your video card's documentation on how to adjust something called "Gamma". It should get your monitor a little brighter than the highest brightness setting. Even if your monitor is dying on you, this may squeeze a few weeks or even months out of it while you save for another one.

How old is your monitor? Do you leave it on 24/7? Is it a CRT, LCD, or plasma screen?
Sounds like it might be time to buy a new one. The price keeps going down so the cost should not be too bad.
