I'm so very stunned and saddened. I was hoping he would hold out longer so I could meet him in the next few years, after finishing grad school. I'm making him a shrine memorial on my door at work.

He's in Heaven now: "We had a memorial services for Isaac [Asimov] a few years back, and at one point I said, 'Isaac is up in Heaven now.' It was the funniest thing I could have said to a group of Humanists. I rolled them in the aisles. It was several minutes before order could be restored. And if I should ever die, God forbid, I hope you will say, 'Kurt is up in Heaven now.' That’s my favorite joke" (http://www.vonnegutweb.com/archives/arc_nice.html ).

Thank you!!

So I've been mentioning it all day, and hardly anyone seemed to care. One of my friends even said, "Who's Kurt Vonnegut?" Needless to say, we are no longer friends.

I was thinking about it, though, and after 84 years of life, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, and attempting suicide, I'd say it was time for him to finally rest in peace. He did live a full life.

I do not recall ever reading his work but was aquainted with seeing him a s apublic figure. yeah I hear yah there is a big loss where we all lose a bit of something when we see someone with such a great and creative mind who shared so much of their selves pass on. I know I really felt the loss and fully understood the contribution to the creative world of Bob Hope after his passing. These wonderful people become a part of our lives and cause us to laugh, cry, grow and challenge our own little worlds into exploring much deeper thought. So with that I too can maurn the passing of Mr Vonnegut and that we will no longer be gifted with ther words from his pen.

I don't have the quote verbatum but I'll paraphase it. It's one of many Vonnegut favorites:
" When you do something half-assed you are like a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind"
In a do nothing, apathetic world, no matter how well you do something, it is just important that you DO SOMETHING.
God Bless you Mr. Vonnegut! Hi-Ho!
