The majority of paramedics and EMT's work 24 on/48 off, and they can sleep during the 24 hour shift if they get a chance. There are usually different shifts available, too. My boyfriend works 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week. You can also find 8 and 12 hour shifts, and some counties with a very low call volume will work 48 hour shifts.
Hope this helps!

It varies depending on the service you work for, but most of the experience I have had has been on 24 on, 48 off shifts. I have seen 8, 10, & 12 hour shifts as well.

Depends on the service they work for. Some places work 8, 10, 12, 24, 36, 48 or more. Yes they can sleep at the station when not on calls. Some hospital based services have their EMT's working in the ER while not on calls.

Montgomery County, Texas - Paramedics work 9 days a month, and they are 24 hour shifts. They work 1 day on/1 day off until they have worked 4 days, then have 4 straight days off.

Hire a nanny. You may even need 2 to cover 24 hours.
